Rector Present BEU's Innovation and International Partnership Model at QS Forum

Yagub Piriyev, Rector of Baku Engineering University (BEU), delivered a speech at the "QS Eurasia Forum 2025" held in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan.

In his presentation during the panel discussion titled "Building a globally recognised university from the region: Strategies and success stories" and in response to moderators' questions, the Rector highlighted the achievements in expanding BEU's international partnerships, strengthening its position in global rankings, ensuring quality in education, and fostering an innovation-oriented environment. He stated that the university actively participates in addressing issues relevant to the region—in the areas of transport infrastructure improvement, energy efficiency, green energy, water supply, and waste management. Providing information about major projects implemented in Azerbaijan under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev in recent years—the "smart city" and "smart village" concepts in liberated and other territories, the creation of green energy zones, and the development of modern infrastructure and high-tech industrial parks—the Rector noted that all of this opens up extensive research and innovation opportunities for BEU. In this regard, touching upon the activities of the BEU Technopark, which provides innovative services to more than 6,000 students and teachers, implements startup projects, and holds international accreditation, Yagub Piriyev stated that the Technopark ecosystem encompasses over 30 active startups and innovation-oriented development directions. Most of these are projects related to "smart city" and "smart village" initiative.

Emphasizing that educational programs in artificial intelligence, robotics, and smart technologies are constantly updated to make BEU students competitive at the international level, the Rector noted the university's activities aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), including joint work with UAE University.

Yagub Piriyev highlighted that BEU, having achieved significant progress in prestigious rankings over the past two years, also aligns engineering education with world standards through international cooperation. Dual degree programs implemented with INHA University of South Korea and Beijing University of Chemical Technology of China provide students with international educational opportunities, practical skills, and competitiveness in the global market. Master classes, module courses, and the establishment of research institutes with the participation of world-renowned scientists strengthen the university's educational and research potential. This equips graduates not only with practical skills but also with scientific potential and directly supports the development of Azerbaijan's national industry.

Highlighting other efforts undertaken for BEU to contribute to regional development projects and to train students as world-class competitive engineers, the Rector noted research activities, as well as strengthening the academic staff, expanding international educational opportunities, and more.

Held on November 25-26, the "QS Eurasia Forum 2025" serves the development of higher education institutions in the region and the enhancement of global academic competitiveness. The forum aims to facilitate experience exchange among universities, improve quality in education, develop innovation and startup ecosystems, and expand international cooperation. The event was attended by representatives of international organizations, academic experts, and leaders in the field of education.
