A scientific seminar has been held at the Department of Azerbaijani Language and Pedagogy of Baku Engineering University (BEU) on the tasks arising from the requirements set by President Ilham Aliyev in his speech at the 80th anniversary meeting of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) regarding the state of application of the Azerbaijani language.
Speaking at the seminar, the head of the department Tarana Hajiyeva emphasized that the ideas voiced by President Ilham Aliyev in his speech at the meeting dedicated to the 80th anniversary of ANAS regarding the state of application of the Azerbaijani language in the country and regions set serious tasks for the country's linguists, pedagogical workers, including university lecturers teaching the subject "Business and Academic Communication in the Azerbaijani Language". She noted the importance of educating young people and students about the rich expressive possibilities of our language, especially the perfection of the national terminological system of the language. Moreover, T.Hajiyeva added that every Azerbaijani language teacher has a responsible task to increase the opportunities for the correct and functional use of our native language by our speakers in other countries.
The seminar emphasized the need for cooperation with relevant institutions in the process of compiling materials that optimize the teaching of the Azerbaijani literary language. Furthermore, it was mentioned that it is important to further increase the hours allocated for work on the explanatory dictionary of the Azerbaijani language, spelling and orthoepy dictionaries in the syllabus of the subject “Business and Academic Communication in the Azerbaijani Language” taught at higher schools in order to increase the terminology and vocabulary of young people.
At the end, the seminar participants exchanged views on the topic and discussed educational and awareness-raising initiatives that can be implemented in the direction of the protection and development of the Azerbaijani language.
