Information day on “Horizon 2020” programme at BEU

“Horizon 2020” the network of National Contact Points(NCPs) of European Commission has organized a seminar supervised by Vice-president of ANAS, academician Ibrahim Guliyev at Baku Engineering University(BEU).  

The seminar, which was held with the support of the Ministry of Education, and the participation of NCPs members, and International Relations Office of the Presidium of ANAS, was informative.  

Assoc.prof. Manafaddin Namazov, Vice-Rector for International Relations at BEU, noted the importance of the “Horizon 2020” programme and expressed his confidence that BEU lecturers would benefit from this program.

Head of International Relations Office of the Presidium of ANAS, PhD. in Biology Esmira Alirzayeva provided information about the current state of the Azerbaijani scientific community to use the opportunities of “Horizon 2020”, as well as about the works carried out by the members of ANAS and NCPs to increase this activity. She familiarized the participants with the history and budget of the programme, and added that three aspects, including high-level science, a competitive industry and a developed society were important in the programme that supported research and innovation.

Fuad Novruzov, the NCP for Euratom Program, a member of the National Center of Oncology of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan and a lecturer at the Medical University, gave a speech on the preparation and evaluation of “Horizon 2020” projects. He gave detailed information on the structure and theme of the projects to be written.

The NCP for Mari Skladovskaya-Curie Scholarship Program for development of training and career, Head of Antiquity Period Archaeology Department of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of ANAS, PhD in Technical Sciences Zaur Hasanov spoke about the individual and group grants and the preparation of the projects.  

Arif Najimov, NCP for the Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Development Program, Head of International Relarions and Project Management Department at BEU, shared his experience about the University participation in the “Horizon 2020” projects.

At the end, the questions of seminar participants were answered.

It should be noted that Horizon 2020 is the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme ever with nearly €80 billion of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020). “Horizon 2020”, which supports research and innovation, operates in three areas: excellent science, industrial leadership and tackling societal challenges. This program also envisages measures aimed at further development of the European Research Area.
