BEU Rector meets with regional director of QS international rating company

Rector of Baku Engineering University (BEU), Professor Havar Mammadov has met with Sergey Khristoliubov, Regional Director of QS Quacquarelli Symonds for Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

Rector Havar Mammadov expressed his pleasure to see the guest at BEU. He informed the guest about the history of the University, the existing faculties and specialties taught.

Speaking about the "State Program on increasing the international competitiveness of the higher education system in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2019-2023" approved by the Order of President Ilham Aliyev, the rector noted that the main goal of the program was to train a new generation of competitive professionals. Recalling that an agreement on mutual cooperation was signed between the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan and the international rating agency QS Quacquarelli Symonds in September this year, Havar Mammadov said it was the next important step in implementing the program and solving the task. The rector also touched upon the dual degree program implemented between BEU and Inha University of South Korea.

Havar Mammadov noted that despite the fact that BEU was a young university, the University staff occupied a leading position in the country for publishing activities. The rector emphasized that BEU was ranked second among Azerbaijani higher education institutions according to the scientific parameters of the popular Web of Science in Publons.

S.Khristoliubov announced the criteria for the inclusion of higher education institutions in the QS ranking table. He said that the QS rating was based on a number of indicators, including academic reputation, the number of teachers and students in universities, citations to articles, the number of articles by academic staff, the reputation of employers and the effectiveness of Internet resources, etc.

Referring to the recently signed cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Education and the organization he represents, S.Khristoliubov said that the aim was to provide information and analytical support to the country's leading universities in the context of participation in the rankings. He stressed the importance of strengthening the scientific potential, increasing participation in international scientific cooperation, expanding the network of contacts in the international scientific-educational environment, as well as developing teacher and student exchange programs.

The sides exchanged views on the current and future rankings of the University, and discussed prospects for cooperation.
