BEU hosts meeting of students with MPs

A meeting of students with members of the Milli Majlis - Nigar Mammadova, Sabina Khasayeva, Nagif Hamzayev has been held at Baku Engineering University (BEU) within the framework of the “Year of Constitution and Sovereignty”.

Delivering an opening speech at the event dedicated to the theme “Year of Constitution and Sovereignty: New Challenges and Modern Azerbaijani Youth”, Rector Yagub Piriyev noted that the Decree of President Ilham Aliyev on declaring 2025 as the “Year of Constitution and Sovereignty” in our country is of great importance not only in terms of studying the history of our statehood, but also in terms of the great  significance of new national ideological priorities in the post-war period. It was emphasized that our Constitution, prepared as a result of the hard work of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev and adopted by referendum on November 12, 1995, formed the basis for large-scale legislative and institutional reforms in our country.

Stating that the legal force of our Constitution was established throughout the country as a result of the historic victory in the Patriotic War and the successful anti-terrorist operation carried out in September 2023, the rector also touched upon a number of important tasks facing young people in the conditions of new realities. Moreover, he expressed his confidence that they would always be guided by national interests, would confidently move towards the upcoming strategic goals, and adequately cope with the tasks assigned to them in protecting the international image of our country and promoting our legal values.

MP Nigar Mammadova pointed out that the comprehensive development of Azerbaijani youth, successful education, interest in scientific activity, openness to all technological innovations, and high moral qualities are the basis of the state youth policy. Emphasizing that the volunteer movement in our country provides youth with socialization, experience, and extensive contacts, she called on students to evaluate all opportunities. The MP also added that from student years, it is important to be highly active, work with a team spirit, and be united in science, and responding to the challenges of the time forms the foundation for a successful future career.

Expressing her pride in seeing girls in the technical specialties of BEU, MP Sabina Khasayeva noted the usefulness of correctly assessing the potential of women for our society. The MP drew attention to the fact that higher education is not enough to become a good specialist today, and to the importance of acquiring technological skills and new habits, calling on young people to keep up with the times.

MP Nagif Hamzayev explained to young people a brief chronology of successes of Azerbaijan in the last 30 years, calling them lucky compared to the hardships and crises experienced by the young generation in the early 1990s. Mentioning that in today's Azerbaijan, extensive reforms are being carried out for the development of youth, career projects, startup competitions, as well as opportunities to rise in positions in the state and non-state sectors, he also advised young people to start their careers during their education period and to be planned.

Later, the students asked the MPs questions about the history of our Constitution, as well as the socio-political, socio-economic and cultural life of our country, and global political issues.

The MPs expressed their views on each issue separately and formed certain opinions among the students.

The meeting left a pleasant impression on the students.
