A training on the topic of “Backwards Design Approach in Course Development” has been held at the Department of Foreign Languages of Baku Engineering University (BEU).
At the training, Irada Mammadova, a participant in the Fulbright Faculty Development Program and senior lecturer of the aforementioned department, provided general information about the research she conducted on the methodology of effective English language teaching within the framework of the Fulbright program at Marshall University in America.
Later, she brought to attention the basic principles of course and syllabi preparation, which is the most modern approach applied in American higher education institutions, as well as the necessary information about the Backwards Design approach. She noted that Backwards Design, unlike traditional approach methods, is an end-to-end approach to the course and is implemented in 3 stages. The 1st stage includes determining the goals and outcomes of the course, the 2nd stage the assessment tools, and the 3rd stage the correct preparation of educational activities and tasks.
At the end of the interactive training, the participants were given tasks that applied the Backwards Design method and the questions were answered.
