Baku Engineering University (BEU) has held an opening event as part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) week. The goal was to raise students' awareness of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and encourage them to take action in this direction.
Speaking at the opening, Mayis Azizov, Head of the Science and Innovation Department of BEU, emphasized that the SDGs week is an important platform for promoting environmental and social responsibility in the university community. It was noted that by participating in the activities organized during the week, students will both expand their knowledge and implement useful initiatives for society.
Later, Aysu Jabrayilova, Chair of the Student Scientific Society, provided information about the events planned as part of the SDGs week. She noted that during these events, students will not only learn, but also share their ideas and have the opportunity to implement useful projects.
Narmina Guliyeva, Associate Professor of the Department of Chemical Engineering, gave an extensive report on the directions and goals of the SDGs. The speech explained how the SDG goals are being implemented in the world with examples, and drew attention to the work being done at the global level in the field of green technologies. N. Guliyeva called on students to conduct scientific research in the SDG areas, prepare creative projects, emphasizing the broad opportunities of BEU laboratories, as well as the Technopark, for the realization of their ideas.
The event continued with interactive discussions, and participants shared their views and suggestions on the topic of sustainable development.
Afterwards, an ecologically oriented campaign was organized within the framework of the SDG opening week. As part of the campaign, students carried out cleaning work on the campus. The main goal of the event was to increase environmental awareness among young people and support the promotion of a sustainable lifestyle. Students sorted waste, collected it in cardboard boxes, and handed over solid and soft household waste separately.
This initiative was implemented in accordance with the SDG directions of “Responsible Production and Consumption”, “Fighting Climate Change”, and “Partnership for the Goals”.
