The results of Baku Engineering University (BEU) employees in the world's most famous scientific database "Scopus" continue to improve. Owing to the purposeful work done, positive dynamics in this direction have been recorded every year. Thus, while the number of publications in the "Scopus" database of the university was 10 in 2017, it was 15 in 2018, 32 in 2019, and a total of 71 in 2020 and 2021.
In 9 months of the current year, the number of publications by BMU employees is more than 30, and by taking into account the articles currently in the process of publication, this number is predicted to be close to 50 by the end of the year.
The impact factor of publications on behalf of BEU in the "Scopus" database is also increasing every year. Among the 158 articles published in the last five years, the 3 articles with the most references belonged to associate professor of the Finance Department Elchin Suleymanov, Vice-Rector for scientific affairs of the university. The article he co-authored in "Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews" journal of Elsevier ("CiteScore" impact factor 28.5), which is among the 20 most ranked scientific journals in the world and in the top 1 percent of its field, ranked first with 105 references. The Head of the Industrial Engineering Department of the university, assoc.prof. Parviz Hasanov's co-authored article published in "Applied Mathematical Modeling" journal (impact factor 8.5) ranks second with 64 references. The Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, assoc.prof. It is known that the reforms carried out in the direction of the integration and development of science and education in Azerbaijan are always in the center of attention. Since the development of science in the world, especially fundamental science, depends more on the research conducted in higher education institutions, joint coordination of science and education policy in Azerbaijan is one of the main requirements of the modern era. Teaching, as well as scientific-research activities of higher educational institutions are part of its mission. Furthermore, this is the most important factor affecting the ranking of the university
"Scopus" system is one of the most widely used scientific databases, which measure the academic impact of scientific publications and the citations made to them, and calculate the position of the country and the university in the world science. This database, owned by the famous "Elsevier" company, is used by the most important companies that determine the ranking of universities. Publication of articles in scientific journals indexed in the database is a significant contribution to increasing the scientific weight of the country. It should be noted that as one of the directions for the development of science and education defined in the "Socio-economic Development Strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2020-2026", it is aimed to increase the number of publications in the country by 40 percent in scientific journals with an impact factor. Moreover, one of the main directions in the implementation of the road map of the subgroup “On improving international rating indicators (H index) related to scientific publications” operating under the Working Group “Technology and innovations” of the Commission on Business Environment and International Ratings of the Republic of Azerbaijan is to increase the number of publications from Azerbaijan in "Scopus" and "Web of Science" systems.
The work done in this direction at BEU is purposeful and permanent. Every year, with the organization of the vice-rectorate for scientific affairs of the university, trainings are conducted on increasing the knowledge and experience of employees in the direction of publishing their articles in "Scopus", "Web of Science" and other international scientific journals, as well as "creating corporate profiles and individual pages of higher education institutions in international scientific databases and employees with publications in these databases are also rewarded.
Currently, the top five articles published on behalf of BEU in "Scopus" journals are as follows:
The most productive BEU scientists are Vice-Rector for scientific affairs, assoc.prof. Elchin Suleymanov, employee of the Faculty of Economics and Administartive Sciences, PhD. in Economics Khatai Aliyev, Head of the Chemical Engineering Department Yusif Abdullayev, and associate professor of that department, Doctor of Chemical Sciences Ravan Rahimov.
Furthermore, Vice-Rector E. Suleymanov was a reviewer of about 70 articles indexed in "Web of Science" and "Scopus" system, published in about 20 scientific journals, and he was given the status of "Excellent reviewer". With this indicator, he ranks third among scientists from Azerbaijan.
