A seminar entitled “First Steps in Cybersecurity” has been held at Baku Engineering University (BEU).
Delivering an opening speech at the seminar, Jabir Mammadov, Head of the Department of Information and Computer Technologies of BEU, emphasized that the event aims to increase students’ knowledge and skills in modern technological innovations. He noted that such seminars also served to create a favorable practice environment for improving theoretical knowledge. The Head of the Department added that a test will be held among students studying in the relevant specialties at the university in early April, and according to the results, a group will be selected to work in the Cybersecurity Laboratory, calling on young people to be active in the seminar.
Later, Omar Shukurov, a teacher at the Cybersecurity and Computer Engineering Department, made a presentation on “What are CTF (Capture the Flag) competitions?”. The presentation provided information about the categories of CTF games and various CTF formats. Stating that cybersecurity competitions are based on computer and cybersecurity knowledge, the speaker emphasized the importance of learning the basic concepts first to start CTF. He added that having CTF experience gives a certain status to those who learn this platform and creates wide job opportunities.
Afterwards, the seminar was addressed by Kamran Abdullazade, head of the Cybersecurity Laboratory of BEU, and Madin Gahramanov, a specialist of the laboratory. The speakers provided information on how to carry out an attack in cybersecurity, as well as how to build a defense.
At the end of the seminar, the students' questions were answered.
