The “Smart Jacket” project of the “Last Army” team, consisting of students from Baku Engineering University (BEU), has been selected among 63 teams in the Azerbaijan stage of the FICS (Future Innovation and Creativity Seminar) international startup competition and has reached the finals.
The competition, which is being held for the second time at Azerbaijan Technical University, is being held in cooperation with Pakistan’s NUST (National University of Sciences and Technology) and is considered one of the largest innovation platforms in the region. This year, teams representing universities from Azerbaijan and Central Asian countries participated in the competition.
The “Smart Jacket” project, jointly developed by BEU students, Abdurrahman Heydarli (“Electrical and Electronics Engineering”, IV year), Alovsat Sadigli and Mahammad Samadli (“Industrial Engineering”, III year), as well as graduate student Aisha Malik (“Business Administration and Finance”), was designed to ensure safe and independent movement of visually impaired people outdoors. The jacket has an artificial intelligence-based human recognition system, various distance and environmental sensors integrated into it. The project was highly appreciated by the jury for both its technological innovation and social utility, and the BEU team earned the right to participate in the finals.
The final stage of the competition will be held in Islamabad, Pakistan.
