Scientific Seminar Held at BEU with Participation of Doctoral Students from China

Baku Engineering University (BEU) is hosting 32 doctoral students from the People's Republic of China, along with faculty members, who are in our country as part of the dual degree program implemented between Baku Engineering University (BEU) and Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT).

Within the framework of the visit program, an international scientific-practical seminar for doctoral students on the topic "Impact of Engineering Applications on Sustainable Development Goals" has commenced.

Speaking at the opening of the seminar, BEU Rector Yagub Piriyev expressed satisfaction with the effective cooperation established with BUCT this year and the successful implementation of the first dual degree program at the bachelor's level, emphasizing that the seminar held with the participation of doctoral students is of great importance in terms of scientific knowledge exchange. In his speech, it was noted that the foundation of relations between Azerbaijan and China was laid by the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, and this strategic line is being successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev. Attention was drawn to the fact that the Joint Declaration on establishing comprehensive strategic partnership adopted jointly with President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China during our Head of State's visits to this country in the current year, as well as agreements on the implementation of visa-free regime and cooperation in other areas, play an important role in the development of relations between the two countries. The Rector added that as a result of President Ilham Aliyev's far-sighted policy, Azerbaijan is becoming the main force of the region's new strategic transport map, and the launch of the Zangezur corridor will create broad opportunities for the Middle Corridor, which is an integral part of the "One Belt, One Road" initiative.

Stating that the seminar is of great importance not only in terms of the scale of scientific discussions but also in terms of contribution to a global sustainable future, the Rector emphasized his confidence that the event will create an important foundation for the formation of new research ideas and deepening of cooperation, and will be the beginning of joint projects.

During the continuation of the event, Yu Yue, Deputy of the International Education Department of BUCT and Professor, made a presentation about BUCT. The speech touched upon the university's research directions and joint dual degree programs it implements with foreign higher education institutions. During the presentation, a video interview with students currently studying in China under the BEU-BUCT program was shown.

Subsequently, scientific presentations and speeches on future cooperation were delivered at the seminar by BEU Vice-Rector for International Relations Atraba Gul, Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation Agasi Malikov, BUCT doctoral students Shang Yizhuo and Shao Yusheng, Institute of Physics staff member Tarana Nurubeyli, as well as BEU professors Vali Huseynov and Rakib Afandiyev, and Associate Professor Elmir Babayev, followed by an exchange of views. It was noted that engineering sciences today are one of the main directions not only of technological innovations but also of the process of achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The speeches touched upon areas such as energy efficiency, waste management, water resource conservation, clean production technologies, and smart city solutions, and it was emphasized that such joint platforms established with Chinese universities will make an important contribution to strengthening scientific potential as well as the development of friendly relations between the two countries.

The seminar continues with specialized presentations by doctoral students and interactive panel discussions. Scientists and researchers invited from other universities are participating in the sessions alongside BEU scholars.

Within the framework of the doctoral students' visit to our country, visits to other higher education institutions as well as a number of organizations are also planned.
