Play staged in English by BEU students demonstrated at ASUCA

The play “A Story about The Botanist-Doctor Monsieur Jordan and the Famous Sorcerer Dervish Mastali Shah” by the great thinker Mirza Fatali Akhundov, staged in English by students of Baku Engineering University (BEU), has been demonstrated at the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Art (ASUCA). 

The dear memory of our martyrs was commemorated and the National Anthem was played at the event, which was attended by the faculty and students of both universities.

Welcoming the guests, ASUCA Rector Jeyran Mahmudova expressed her satisfaction with the BEU staff and students taking such a pleasant and important initiative. The rector noted that among the spectators of the performance were the student-teacher collective of the Faculty of Theater Arts of the ASUCA, adding to her thoughts that watching the performance staged by students studying in the field of engineering aroused double interest. Highlighting the positive aspects of the great love for art and the promotion of our culture at BEU, Jeyran Mahmudova mentioned that this played an indispensable role in the formation of the beautiful taste of our young people receiving technical knowledge, as well as in their closer acquaintance with our culture. In particular, the rector highly appreciated the appeal to the classical repertoire and welcomed the students' revival of the work of the great Mirza Fatali Akhundov in English. She emphasized, "Of course, we must promote our classics not only in Azerbaijani, but also in different languages, and I express my gratitude to all those who contributed to this work, especially my esteemed rector colleague".

BEU Rector Yagub Piriyev drew attention to the fact that it was no coincidence that such a performance was held at ASUCA, which provides our country with valuable personnel in the field of culture and art and makes great contributions to our national culture. Noting that among those watching the performance were well-known cultural figures, connoisseurs of theater art and professors, the rector expressed that it was a great responsibility to perform in front of these people. Y.Piriyev spoke about the obligations of higher education institutions in the field of promoting our culture with rich historical roots and drew attention to the importance of measures that stimulate the comprehensive development of students. Yagub Piriyev touched upon the work done at BEU to reveal the professionalism of talented young people and the successes of students, expressing his belief that the cooperation of both universities would make a significant contribution to this work, and expressing his gratitude to the ASUCA management for the created conditions. Recalling that the 100th anniversary of the ASUCA was solemnly celebrated at BEU last year, the rector emphasized that successful relations have been established between the two universities and joint cultural events would continue.

Later, the students performed the work “A Story about The Botanist-Doctor Monsieur Jordan and the Famous Sorcerer Dervish Mastali Shah”.

The play, staged in English in the format of short acts, was watched with great interest.

At the end of the event, the speakers noted that the play was prepared at a high level and expressed their gratitude to the employees of the BEU Foreign Languages ​​Department who contributed to the creation of the play.
