Representative of NASA, PhD. in Planetary Science, associate research professor in the Department of Astronomy at the University of Virginia Anne Verbiscer and Director of Educational Programs of U.S. Embassy, Aydan Askerova have visited BEU within the framework of “Speaker Program”, supported by U.S. Department of State.
Rector of BEU, Professor Havar Mammadov spoke about the achievements of Azerbaijan which had recently celebrated the 28th anniversary of its independence. The rector has emphasized that as rich heritage and political school of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev to ensure long-term sustainable development of our country are successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan has passed a long way of development in a short period of time. Currently, Azerbaijan is in the highest place in the world due to its political, economic power, strategic position and development rate. Noting Azerbaijan's entry into the world space alliance in spite of its still being young, the rector brought into attention the launching 3 satellites (“Azerspace-1”, “Azersky”, “Azerspace-2”) into the orbit, as well as its importance in terms of innovation and business.
The rector gave detailed information about BEU. He added that BEU, conducting the training of specialist in engineering, economics and pedagogical specialties, cooperated not only with foreign universities, but also with international companies.
PhD. in Planetary Science, associate research professor Anne Verbiscer pointed that becoming a member of the world space alliance was a great achievement for such a young and independent country. She informed about the purpose of her visit, as well as her meetings in “Azərkosmos”and other organizations. The guest also spoke about cooperation opportunities with BEU.
Later, representative of NASA Anne Verbischermet with BEU students. Vice-rector for International Affairs, assoc.prof. Manafaddin Namazov represented the guest to the participant, and then Anne Verbischer lectured the students. Her ideas about virtual space exploration, new horizon planets and the creation of Pluton were met with interest.
