New Academic Year Opening Marked at BEU

An event was held at Baku Engineering University (BEU) in connection with the beginning of the 2025-2026 academic year.

 

The event began with the national anthem, followed by a minute of silence in memory of our martyrs.  

 

In his opening speech, university rector Yagub Piriyev extended sincere congratulations to the university staff and young people who newly acquired student status. Emphasizing that the new academic year coincides with the 5th anniversary of the victory achieved in the Patriotic War under the leadership of Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief President Ilham Aliyev, he noted that our people will always take pride in this Victory, which represents an unprecedented heroic chapter of independent Azerbaijan.     

 

Yagub Piriyev highlighted the reforms carried out at BEU in recent years, where all conditions have been created for developing competitive specialists in engineering and information technology in accordance with international standards. Special mention was made of the university's inclusion in the world's top thousand in the "QS 2026 World's Best Universities Ranking" this year. Addressing this year's admission results, the rector emphasized that 97 percent of planned positions across 39 specialties were filled, and presented statistical figures showing nearly a two-fold increase in the total number of students admitted to the university, including at the master's level, as well as high-scoring applicants who chose BEU. He also provided essential information about dual degree programs being implemented with South Korean and Chinese universities across 7 specialties at the undergraduate level starting from this year. Noting as encouraging the fact that more than 30 BEU graduates gained master's degree opportunities abroad this year, the rector described the conditions created for their continued education as a bright expression of our state's support for educated and skilled generations.

 

At the end of his speech, Yagub Piriyev advised students to work systematically to deeply learn their specialties.   

 

Head of Absheron District Executive Authority (DEA) Abdin Farzaliyev congratulated teachers and students on the new academic year. He stated that the education system in Azerbaijan is always at the center of state attention, and currently educational infrastructure is being successfully rebuilt in our territories liberated from occupation where major construction work is underway. Highly appreciating the opportunities created in our country's higher education institutions, including BEU, for increasing students' knowledge and skills, Abdin Farzaliyev emphasized his confidence that young people will grow as highly qualified personnel and contribute to Azerbaijan's further development in the future.   

  

Member of Parliament Nigar Mammadova, speaking at the event, characterized higher education years as an important stage in every young person's life. Addressing reforms in education and state programs being implemented, the MP stated that young people should take advantage of all opportunities created for them, develop as good specialists while remaining loyal to national and spiritual values, and possess true citizenship positions.

 

Another Member of Parliament Vugar Bayramov said in his congratulatory speech that the development of education constitutes a priority direction for our country. He specifically noted the steps taken by our state for human capital development, emphasizing rapid changes in technology and innovation, the renewal of science and education sectors in accordance with modern challenges, and the importance of preparing the young generation as highly qualified personnel based on labor market requirements.

        

Academic Secretary of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), Academician Arif Hashimov characterized science and education as the main pillars of Azerbaijan's future development strategy in the modern era. The scientist spoke about the importance of students showing interest in science and being involved in research, stating that ANAS is always ready to support young people who come forward with new ideas, conduct research, and put forward innovative initiatives.

       

Speaking later at the event, Chairman of the Public Council under Absheron DEA, mother of martyr Elchin Hasanli, Khatira Ismayilova said she always takes pride in young people's patriotism and their educated and knowledgeable upbringing, wishing them success in their studies.

 

Finally, Narmin Talibova, who was admitted to BEU's "Information Technologies" specialty with the highest results this year, shared the pride of gaining student status and her heartfelt words with event participants.
