A delegation from Lanzhou University of Finance and Economics of the People's Republic of China has visited Baku Engineering University (BEU).

Welcoming the guests, Rector Yagub Piriyev expressed his satisfaction with seeing them at BEU, emphasizing the friendly and partnership relations between China and Azerbaijan. He noted that Azerbaijan is one of the first countries to support China's "One Belt, One Road" initiative, and as a result of the successful policies pursued by the leaderships of both countries, economic relations have further strengthened, and cooperation in science and education has expanded. The Rector drew attention to the relations that have emerged between the country's higher education institutions and BEU in recent months, the implemented dual diploma programs, expressing his confidence that the cooperation would contribute to the training of personnel in science, as well as modern technological skills. Providing information about the history of BEU and the specialties taught, Yagub Piriyev touched upon the important reforms implemented in the last two years, and the fact that the higher education institution entered the top 1000 in the world's prestigious QS ranking, characterizing this as a great success of the university. Drawing attention to the areas of cooperation with Lanzhou University of Finance and Economics, the rector mentioned the conduct of joint scientific research related to the "One Belt, One Road" initiative, the implementation of a dual degree program, the organization of a summer school for students, and etc.

The head of the delegation, Vice-Rector of Lanzhou University of Finance and Economics, Professor Huang Hengjun pointed out that they were interested in establishing relations with BEU and believed that cooperation would benefit both universities. Bringing information about the higher education institution they represented, the vice-rector added that the university is a state higher education institution located in Lanzhou, Gansu Province, China and was established in 1952. The university trains personnel in finance, economics, management, law, computer science, statistics, in total 62 specialties. Lanzhou University of Finance and Economics, which is mainly taught in Chinese, and in certain international programs in English, has 36 thousand students at bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels. It also implements scientific and student exchange programs with many international universities and academic institutions.

During the meeting, research initiatives, joint double diplomas, teacher and student exchange programs, organization of a summer school for students, as well as other academic cooperation opportunities between BEU and Lanzhou University of Finance and Economics were discussed. A wide exchange of views was also held on additional topics of mutual interest.

At the end, a memorandum of understanding was signed between BEU and Lanzhou University of Finance and Economics. The memorandum aims to increase interest in teaching and research activities, prepare proposals for joint research, and facilitate teacher-student exchange. According to the document, the parties agreed to cooperate in joint research, implementation of lifelong learning programs, exchange of information on innovative teaching and management methods, organization of joint events on environmental management, etc.

Following the signing, the guests got acquainted with the educational buildings and laboratories of BEU.
