The first meeting of the group on technical, technological and special-purpose specialties has been held.
At the meeting, which was attended by rectors and specialists of a number of higher education institutions, the co-chairman of the group, rector of Baku Engineering University (BEU) Yagub Piriyev provided information on the issues on the agenda and emphasized the main tasks ahead. The co-chairman brought to the attention of the meeting participants the importance of conducting student-oriented specialization that meets modern requirements and the needs of the labor market under new specialties of the master's level. Moreover, he announced that a list consisting of one representative and a student from each higher education institution where personnel training is carried out in the specialty, as well as one specialist in the labor market in that specialization, should be submitted to the commission. The Working Group to be established will identify the specializations and submit them to the Ministry of Science and Education.
After detailed discussion, the issues on the agenda were put to a vote and unanimously adopted.
Of note, the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated December 2, 2024, a new classification of specialties at the bachelor's, basic (base higher) medical education, master's and residency levels of higher education was approved. Based on the Resolution, the Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev signed an order "On the Establishment of a Commission" regarding the development of new educational programs. According to the Order, BEU Rector Yagub Piriyev and STP Group of Companies Executive Director Hijran Valehov were appointed co-chairs of the Technical, Technological and Special Purposes Group.
Based on the results of the first meeting of the Ministry of Science and Education on "Development of New Educational Programs" dated February 25, 2025, steps are being taken to determine the composition of the Working Group on Technical, Technological and Special Purposes and other directions to develop a draft of new educational programs that are competency-based and student-oriented that meet modern requirements and the needs of the labor market.
At the end of the meeting, the participants got acquainted with the new auditoriums, modern laboratories, as well as the Technopark of BEU.
