Baku Engineering University (BEU) has hosted a meeting within the "Skills for the Future" project implemented by the "Innovation Center" of the State Agency for Public Services and Social Innovations (ASAN Service) under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The Rector of BEU, Professor Havar Mammadov met with a delegation led by Deputy Chairman of the Agency Jeyhun Salmanov.
Expressing his pleasure to see the guest at the University, the Rector said that the "Skills for the Future" project was interesting and useful in terms of developing students' ideas, as well as supporting them. Havar Mammadov touched upon the "New Idea" startup competition which promoted and supported the development of innovative entrepreneurship under the organization of BEU. Giving information about BEU Technopark, the Rector noted the projects implemented at the University to support startups.
In his speech, J.Salmanov spoke about the structure of the organization he represented. He noted that the agency, which determined the curation of e-government, innovations and startups, consisted of ASAN Service Centers, ASAN Utility Centers, Innovation Center, ABAD, E-GOV Development Center. He stressed the works done by the agency to create an innovation ecosystem and its main components. Emphasizing the importance of involving university students and teachers in startups, the agency official added that presentations would be held regularly and trainings on startups would be organized among students in order to promote this field.
Later, a meeting was held between the delegation and the heads of relevant structures of BEU. The parties discussed in detail the prospects for cooperation in the framework of the project. An employee of the agency, as well as the project manager Shabnam Mammadova made a presentation on the issues to be addressed in organization of incubation services.
Of note, the "Skills for the Future" project aims to increase human resources in the field of innovation, to support innovation in education. The project consists of two components, including a mentorship programme to train teachers as mentors in universities and an incubation program to train students as startups with the participation of mentors.
