A meeting was held at Baku Engineering University (BEU) with Professor Lior Tabanski, Director of the Cyber Resilience Laboratory at Tel Aviv University, Israel, Scientific Director of the Blavatnik Interdisciplinary Cyber Research Center, and renowned cybersecurity expert.
BEU Rector Yagub Piriyev first provided the guest with information about the university. Highlighting the work being carried out toward the development of Information Technology (IT) specializations, the rector noted that in the era of digitalization, this field is one of the main directions of modern engineering education, and close study of international experience constitutes a priority for the university. Emphasizing that BEU has set the training of highly qualified specialists in the IT field as a primary objective, Yagub Piriyev stated that steps have been taken in this direction both to modernize curricula and to expand joint scientific research activities with international partners. The rector also informed the guest about the Faculty of Information and Computer Technologies, which began operating at BEU last year, the Cybersecurity Laboratory established jointly with BP, as well as dual degree programs implemented with leading universities in China and South Korea. Emphasizing that Israel's advanced experience and Tel Aviv University's scientific achievements are of great interest to BEU, Yagub Piriyev drew attention to cooperation issues with renowned cybersecurity expert Lior Tabanski in this regard.
Lior Tabanski, who delivers presentations at conferences and expert groups held within prestigious international organizations and at various universities around the world, shared his successful experience accumulated in the formation of cybersecurity strategy during his address. The Israeli scientist, who highly assessed the potential for cooperation with BEU, commended the modern innovation environment the university has created for young researchers.
During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on issues such as the growing importance of cybersecurity, protection of critical infrastructure, digital transformation, and the role of educational institutions in these processes. Joint scientific research projects and the invitation of Lior Tabanski to BEU as a visiting professor for relevant specializations were also considered. It was emphasized that effective cooperation will make real contributions to students and faculty acquiring new knowledge in the IT field and implementing joint research and innovative projects.
