Baku Engineering University (BEU) has hosted an event titled “The Future of Energy and Technology” as part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Week.
Speaking at the event dedicated to “Energy Specialists’ Day,” Mayis Azizov, Head of the Science and Innovation Department at BEU, noted that the purpose of organizing such events is to form knowledge and understanding among students about the relevant aspects of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, as well as to increase their individual and collective responsibility in implementing these goals. He emphasized that the application of new technologies in the energy sector, the transition to renewable energy sources, and green transformation are of great importance for achieving these goals.
Later, the head of the Department of Automation, Telecommunications and Energy of BEU, Professor Ramiz Humbatov spoke about the past, current state and future development prospects of the energy sector of Azerbaijan. The head of the department drew attention to the fact that the successes of our country in the oil and gas industry, as well as the policy aimed at alternative and renewable energy sources, play an important role in ensuring the energy security of Azerbaijan. The professor called on students to actively participate in such events, join research and innovation projects.
In the continuation of the event, the associate professor of the department Najaf Orujov presented a report on the topic of “Prospects for sustainable development of energy in Azerbaijan”. The report explained in detail the main innovations taking place in the country's energy sector, development trends of the oil and gas industry, efficient management of energy resources, creation of green energy zones and implementation of alternative energy projects.
The speeches discussed the energy projects being implemented, noting that the revenues from these projects serve not only to improve economic but also social well-being, to form industry and to strengthen national security.
At the end of the event, which was held in line with the SDGs, in particular, the directions of “Affordable and Clean Energy”, “Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure” and “Combating Climate Change”, an exchange of views was held with the participants and the students’ questions were answered.
