Korean language courses start at BEU

Korean language courses have been started online at Khirdalan Sejong Institute established under Baku Engineering University (BEU). Khirdalan Segong Institute was established in July this year as one of the areas of cooperation between BEU and Inha University on the dual degree program. The main goal is to teach the Korean language.

The Korean language course of Khirdalan Seong Institute received more than 1,500 applications during the registration period. First, though it was considered to accept three teachers and 90 students to the course, taking the number of the students willing to learn Korean into account, the administration was applied. Thus, 2 additional teachers were hired and the number of students was increased to 210. Classes are held 2 days a week in 7 groups of 30 people. Other applicants will be involved in courses that will be reorganized in the following semesters.

Each of the teachers involved in Khirdalan Sejong Institute and teaching Korean (1 Korean citizen and 4 Azerbaijani citizens) is well acquainted with the Korean and Azerbaijani education systems. Classes will be held from September 10 to December 30 (15 weeks) using the Zoom program. Students who successfully complete the program will receive a certificate from Segong Institute. The certificate will be presented only to students of the course who have attended more than 70% of classes and have an exam result of more than 60 points. Those who receive the certificate will have the opportunity to use it in the future to study or get a job in Korea.

Due to the current pandemic situation, classes are held online, but it is planned to continue classes in the appropriate classrooms in the future. In the selection of students for the next stage of the course for next year, preference will be given to those who receive a certificate. Those who do not attend classes this semester and do not receive a certificate will lose their chances to participate in other level courses. Those who register but are unable to attend classes this semester will also be given a chance. For this reason, course participants are required to attend classes regularly.

The King Sejong Institute was established by the Korean government under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2005 and operates in more than 50 countries. The purpose of the institute is to teach and spread the Korean language and culture.
