Interview with BEU student, head of Google Developer Students Club Kenan Yusubov

Kanan Yusubov, a master's student in computer engineering at Baku Engineering University (BEU), has been accepted into the Google Developer Student Clubs program as the head of the club's local branch. Despite the large number of applicants for this program from Azerbaijani universities, the first two students from our country were admitted to the program, one of them is BEU student K. Yusubov. In his conversation with us, he stressed that a responsible period awaits him as the head of the club in the future, and clarified the work to be done in the framework of this project, which is new for our country:

- Developer Student Clubs is a program created by Google and organized for students. This is the first time in Azerbaijan that a leader has been appointed to this club. Thanks to the Developer Student Clubs, which will operate at BEU's Innovation Center, students will be able to build and develop collaborations between their educational center and Google, as well as make a significant contribution to their careers. Let me note that the leadership of this club is appointed for a period of one year, and during this period, the leader and the club formed by him must work on new projects and implement innovative measures. The formed team is selected from students studying in both technical and non-technical specialties. Because the main goal is to be able to choose programmers from among the students. At the end of the year, clubs will have to submit their innovative solution to Google. In addition, the club must hold active events (seminars, webinars, etc.) at least once a month with specialists or among its own team for a year. The performance of the team leader will be evaluated on these and other parameters. If the team leader is not active and does not participate, he can be removed from his field.

- What are the opportunities created by the program and how did you apply to this program?

- The main opportunity created by the program is that within a year students will be able to develop themselves in their specialties. Not only students with knowledge and positive achievements in this field, but also students who want to develop themselves will be involved in this club. Because our goal is to make a valuable contribution to their further development in a year.

As for the second part of your question, I saw an ad about the program in the Facebook group "Google Developer Group Baku", which has been operating in Azerbaijan for almost a year, and registered. The interview took place last month. As Azerbaijan is in the Caucasus region, our leader was in Turkey. After the interview stage, I received information that we were selected.

- What can you say about the main activities of the club?

- The main activity of the club is related to programming. Students of programmers in various fields - whether mobile programming, web programming, or machine learning - will come together. When the seminars are organized, experts in the mentioned fields, ie technical fields, will also be invited. Google's goal is to involve programming students studying at various universities around the world in this project, to provide them with additional information.

- What will be the advantage of the club and, more specifically, what will be the benefits for the students?

- The first advantage of the club is the support of Google. This, of course, can be considered a positive quality for students when applying for a job in the future. During its existence, the club will try to provide students with new knowledge in their field. That is, along with various local experts, we plan to involve foreign experts in this process. Because, as I said earlier, Google Developer Group Baku is ready to support us. So, they have direct access to Google Developer experts.

- Will students studying at other universities be able to apply to the club and is there a fee?

- The team is designed for BEU students. But if there is a seminar or webinar, anyone can join and take advantage of these opportunities. Participation is completely free.

- Exactly when do you plan to start working?

- Let me note that BEU has a modern Technopark and Innovation Center. Some work has already been done to operate here, and almost everything is ready. We plan to start operations in about a week..
