Event Titled "Shusha is Azerbaijan's Musical Fortress" Held at BEU

Baku Engineering University (BEU) has held a seminar titled "Shusha is Azerbaijan's Musical Fortress" as part of the 5th anniversary of the Victory achieved in the Patriotic War.

In her opening remarks at the event, Humeyra Mustafayeva, Head of the Department of General Subjects, spoke about Shusha's irreplaceable role in Azerbaijani culture and the importance of broadly promoting its rich musical heritage at the international level. She also noted that preserving Shusha's cultural identity and transmitting it to future generations is the duty of every Azerbaijani.

Subsequently, the work "Azerbaijan's Musical Fortress - Shusha," translated into Arabic by Associate Professor Gafar Ocagli from the department, was presented. It was reported that in this work written by renowned musicologist Professor Zemfira Safarova, Shusha's role in the formation of Azerbaijani music, the development of the mugham school, and the rich legacy of geniuses nurtured by this school - artists such as Mir Mohsun Navvab, Jabbar Garyagdioglu, Haji Husu, Sadigjan, Bulbuljan, and Uzeyir Hajibeyli - have been analyzed on scholarly grounds. Furthermore, the scientific demonstration in the work of profound spiritual similarities between mugham and the Arab "Maqam" tradition sheds light on the common roots of Eastern music. Through translation into Arabic, the pearls of Azerbaijani music are being introduced to the Eastern world, and cultural ties are being further strengthened.

Afterwards, Professor Shikar Gasimov from the department and Namig Abbasov, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Construction, delivered speeches. The presentations extensively discussed the rich cultural history of Shusha and Karabakh, the crucial role these territories have played in Azerbaijani culture, and emphasized that the international music festivals and cultural events held in Shusha following the Victory in the Patriotic War prove that the city has become not only Azerbaijan's but the entire world's cultural capital.

During the seminar, the role of such events in enriching students' scholarly and cultural knowledge and strengthening their commitment to spiritual values was also noted.
