An event entitled “44 days of the 30 years” dedicated to 8 November - Victory Day has been held at BEU organized by Student Trade Union Committee (STUC) and BEU Asan Club.

The event started with the national anthem of the Azerbaijan Republic and the dear memory of the martyrs was remembered with one-minute silence.

Professor Havar Mammadov, the rector of BEU who made a speech after a video about Victory Day entitled “From the past till now” was demonstrated referred that 44-day military operations were engraved as a Patriotic war in Azerbaijani history forever. The rector also noted that eternal lands of ours were released from enemy occupation at the cost of the blood of heroic martyrs, Azerbaijani Army restored territorial integrity, historical justice and international law under the leadership of the victorious Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev.

Havar Mammadov spoke of the bitter situation the country experienced in the early 1990s, the work carried out in all directions, especially in army building after the return of the National Leader Haydar Aliyev to power in 1993 on the demand of the people. The rector who gave his valuable advice to the youth underscored that the Patriotic War uniquiocally proved that well-read young generation who had a strong sense of patriotism, and that was educated in national spirit was raised in the period of independence. Havar Mammadov who noted that our 44-day victory aroused jealousy in circles which didn’t want Azerbaijan to be stronger expressed the necessity of strengthening the work with young generation more and more according to the requirements of the new era.

The rector touched upon in his remarks that he had always highly appreciated the bravery of bellicose sons and daughters of Azerbaijani people and state, he had always respected the spirits of the martyrs, he had held the memory of them high. Mentioning the existence of great care towards our soldiers and officers  who created samples of all time heroism in the war on the territorial integrity of our country Havar Mammadov stressed that sustainable measures are implemented in the direction of social protection of our martyrs and veterans.

Lieutenant-general Yashar Aydamirov who made a speech in the event emphasised the reforms carried out in the field of military building with the initative and under the leadership of National Leader Haydar Aliyev. The general who underlined that victorious Commander-in-Chief, president Ilham Aliyev successfully continued these works, and our modern armed forces were ranked among the top 50 powerful armies in the world also spoke of the operations realized in the 44-day patriotic war and the heroisms of Azerbaijani soldiers.

Then the children of the martyrs who participated in the event took the floor. Mahammad and Suleyman Yusifov, Fatima Yusifova, the children of the senior warrant officer, martyr Mehman Yusifov, Kamran and Sanan Niftaliyev, Laman Niftaliyeva, the children of the senior warrant officer, martyr Mehrab Niftaliyev, Omar Alakbarli and Zamina Alakbarli, the children of the warrant officer, martyr Naiq Alakbarov, Aylin Ahmadli, the child of the veteran lieutenant colonel Vugar Ahmadov made speeches and performed several poems.

The children of the martyrs were presented special memorial gifts.

Afterwards veterans of the Patriotic War, sergeant Vugar Mammadov, soldier Elnur Asgarov, senior lieutenant Tariyel Shixbalayev, lieutenant of Special Forces of Azerbaijan Shirkhan Humbatov, junior sergeant Monsum Isgandarov, junior sergeant Ashir Gulgazov shared their impressions on the battles they had.

General Yashar Aydamirov and the veterans of the Patriotic War who attended the event were presented the certificates of thanks by BEU.

The event ended with a feature part after the speech of the student of BEU Farid Alakbarov, the chair of Asan Club.
