Baku Engineering University (BEU) has held an event dedicated to March 31 - Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis.
After commemorating the memory of the victims of the genocide and all the martyrs with deep respect, a video about the events of March was demonstrated.
Speaking at the event attended by BEU employees and students, Rector Yagub Piriyev drew attention to the history of human crimes and acts of genocide committed by Armenians against Azerbaijanis in order to realize the dream of "Great Armenia". Specially emphasizing the mass massacres carried out by the Armenian-Bolshevik armed groups in March-April 1918 among these crimes, the Rector noted that as a result of the unimaginable atrocities committed against the Azerbaijani population, tens of thousands of innocent people were brutally murdered, hundreds of villages were burned, historical monuments were destroyed, and the residents were displaced from their native lands. Furthermore, he took into account the work carried out in the direction of conveying the truth about this to the world community more fully, based on historical facts. Stating that the foundation of purposeful activity in this field was laid by National Leader Heydar Aliyev, the Rector recalled that with the Decree "On the Genocide of Azerbaijanis" signed by the Great Leader on March 26, 1998, adequate political assessment was given to the terrible events committed against our people, and March 31 was declared the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis. The Rector added that as a result of the successful policy continued by President Ilham Aliyev, the scope of the work done in order to spread the facts of the genocide in the world has increased, and the plan of special measures has been implemented.
The Rector mentioned that the centuries-old insidious plans of the Armenians were brought to an end by the "Operation Iron Fist" led by the Victorious Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, and today every Azerbaijani is proud of becoming a victorious nation. Pointing out that the atrocities committed by Armenian criminals will never be erased from memory, Yagub Piriyev noted the importance of organizing meetings with historians and master classes at the university to educate the young generation about it.
Later, the professor of the Department of Social Sciences of BEU, historian scientist Shikar Gasimov delivered a wide-ranging speech.
