Cooperation between BEU and Innovation and Digital Development Agency discussed

A delegation led by Farid Osmanov, Chairman of the Innovation and Digital Development Agency (IDDA), has visited Baku Engineering University (BEU).

BEU rector Yagub Piriyev provided the guests with detailed information about the material and technical base of the university. He noted that engineering specialties dominate at the university, where 70 percent of teaching is conducted in English. The rector emphasized the great interest of young people in these specialties, especially in the field of information technologies, highlighting the positive dynamics in the number of students with high scores admitted to higher education institution. Stating that the Decree on the approval of the "Artificial Intelligence Strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2025-2028" signed by President Ilham Aliyev sets a number of tasks for universities, Yagub Piriyev touched upon the work planned to train specialists in artificial intelligence at BEU. Moreover, he mentioned that the dual degree program implemented between BEU and INHA University of Korea is providing personnel training in accordance with the requirements of the modern labor market, adding new agreement signed with Beijing University of Chemical Technology of the People's Republic of China last week on a double degree program.

Speaking about the successes of BEU students in local and foreign startup competitions, the rector shared his thoughts on the further development of existing cooperation relations with the agency.

In turn, IDDA Chairman Farid Osmanov spoke about the activities of the organization he led in the field of digital transformation in the country and the important steps taken to form an innovative environment. Listing the priorities of the agency, Farid Osmanov drew attention to the projects envisaged in such important directions as supporting innovation-oriented scientific research and building a digital government and society. Stressing the need to train professional personnel in the mentioned areas, the IDDA Chairman pointed out that the process of training highly competent specialists began with universities, noting that the agency attached special importance to cooperation with higher education institutions in this regard.

The meeting, which continued with fruitful discussions, reviewed possible work that the agency and BEU could do and joint projects to prepare in order to create unity between science and industry, to develop innovative products for the sustainable development of our country, and to meet the need for skilled engineers.

At the end, the guests got acquainted with BEU Cybersecurity, Chemistry, Mechanics and other laboratories, as well as the startups of university students in the Technopark.
