Representatives of the embassy visited Baku Engineering University (BEU) as part of the "English for Academic Purposes" training program implemented by the US Embassy in Azerbaijan in the fields of science, culture and education.
Rector of BEU, Professor Havar Mammadov held meetings with Richard Pinkham, Cultural Affairs Officer at the Embassy, Ramina Murshudova, Education Specialist of the Public Relations Department, and Sabina Abdullayeva, Virtual English Program Manager.
Havar Mammadov stated that despite the fact that BEU was a newly- established university, it trained highly qualified personnel in the fields of economics, engineering and pedagogy.
Speaking about the work done to strengthen the material- technical base, the rector emphasized that the construction of a new educational building was about to be completed.
Touching upon the University's international relations, Havar Mammadov spoke about the cooperation of BEU with many prestigious universities around the world as it started operating. He also spoke about the university's contacts with embassies and international organizations accredited in Azerbaijan as well as its partnership with various programs and projects.
Emphasizing BEU's close contact with the US Embassy in Azerbaijan and the active participation of university teachers and students in various educational programs, Mr. Mammadov highlighted the special role of "English for Academic Purposes" training program carried out by the embassy in the fields of science, culture and education.
The head of the higher education institution expressed his gratitude for everyone contributing to the successful completion of the training organized by the embassy for BEU teachers to perfectly master the English language.
Highly appreciating the participation of teachers in the trainings, representatives of the embassy also stated that teachers were eager to partake in the trainings.
It was noted that in the 2021- 2022 academic year Michael Moak, a US citizen held online classes with 20 BEU teachers as part of the program. In the course of 2 semester training program, teachers gaining knowledge on modern English methodology, teaching techniques, etc. with practical exercises will have the opportunity to apply it in their work.
After the meeting, an award ceremony was held for BEU teachers completing the "English for Academic Purposes" training program implemented by the US Embassy in Azerbaijan in the fields of science, culture and education.
Speaking at the ceremony, Richard Pinkham congratulated all the teachers participating in the training on successful completion of the program and mentioned about possible future trainings.
Later, the teachers participating in the training shared their impressions on the program.
At the end, certificates were presented to teachers who successfully completed the first semester of the program on "Project based learning and critical pedagogy", "ESL Lesson structures and lesson planning", "TESOL Methodology", "Designing a Leading Professional Development Workshops and Professional Learning Networks" and other topics.
