BEU Rector meets with winners of chess competition

Rector of Baku Engineering University (BEU) Yagub Piriyev has met with members of the team that won the 3rd place in the Chess Championship among higher education institutions organized by the Youth Student Sports Society Republican Council.

Emphasizing the work done at the state level in the direction of the development of chess, which has great traditions in Azerbaijan, Yagub Piriyev noted that new chess schools have been put into use in our country, and the State Program on the development of chess has been adopted. Furthermore, he mentioned that our chess players represented our country in international competitions and achieved high results.

Congratulating the BEU team on their success, Yagub Piriyev pointed out that such competitions, which serve to promote a healthy lifestyle, have a positive effect on the formation of a comprehensive personality in addition to the effective use of students' free time. The Rector emphasized the role of chess in the personal development of students and said that it opens the way to positive qualities such as the creation of intellectual competition and the development of thinking.

Later, the members of the chess team, Ilyas Garayev (majoring in information technologies, II year), Aykhan Alizade (majoring in computer engineering, IV year), Tural Aliyev (majoring in information technologies, II year), Melek Ismail (majoring in design, III year), Jala Karimli (majoring in electrical and electronics engineering, II year) took the floor.

Other achievements of the students were also highlighted at the event. It was noted that the team member Malak Ismayil is an international chess player, FIDE master among women. She won the trophy of the open chess championship dedicated to November 8-Victory Day and became the winner of the tournament (1st place). M.Ismayil also took first place as the only Azerbaijani representative in the international chess tournament held in Münster, Germany in November 2023. Melek Ismayil was awarded the third place in the women's competition held in Spain in December.

Emphasizing that the success of the students representing BEU in various contests and competitions is a matter of pride, the rector noted that their activities are always taken into account, as well as the work on creating more favorable conditions in the higher educational institution is continued.

At the end, the members of the winning team were presented with certificates of honor.
