A workshop has been held at Baku Engineering University (BEU) within the framework of the project "Application of Artificial Intelligence in Precision Agriculture" organized by the Agrarian Innovation Center of the Ministry of Agriculture.

The project, which was launched in early April, aims to promote the application of artificial intelligence in the agricultural sector by using innovations and digital technologies.

Speaking at the event, BEU Rector Yagub Piriyev characterized the application of artificial intelligence in agriculture as a strategic direction for the future of this field. Noting that the recent steps taken under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev to diversify the country's economy and the well-thought-out reform policy have borne fruit, the rector said that agriculture gained a special position in the economy, and the agrarian sector entered a qualitatively new stage of development. Yagub Piriyev drew attention to the work done in connection with the implementation of the First State Program on the Great Return, emphasizing that high-tech restoration work is being carried out in our lands liberated from occupation, "Smart Agriculture" projects, and smart technologies are being applied. Moreover, it was noted that every step taken towards the digitalization of agriculture in Azerbaijan is of strategic importance for the food security, export potential and innovation-oriented development of our country. Noting that the BEU Technopark chose the development of agricultural startups as its strategic direction, the rector also added that several doctoral and master's students of the university are conducting scientific research on the application of artificial intelligence to various fields of agriculture.

Providing extensive information about the project, Anar Jafarov, Director of the Agrarian Innovation Center, drew attention to the fact that the project envisages the participation of students and young researchers from higher education institutions where artificial intelligence is taught. He emphasized that workshops held for this purpose are organized in various formats in different areas of the agricultural sector. The director added that smart and innovative solutions put forward by teams from higher education institutions within the framework of the project will be applied in selected private farms.

After the demonstration of a video clip on the work and events carried out by the Agrarian Innovation Center, the head of the “Enterprise Azerbaijan” portal Isa Gasimov, the founder of “TECHNOCARE” LLC Tural Hamzayev, the director of “Agro Systems” LLC Kochari Hasanov, and the director of “SHABRAN-D” LLC Shohrat Mammadov spoke at the event and provided information about the achievements of the companies they lead in the field of innovations and invited young people studying in modern technological specialties and showing interest in innovations to cooperate.
