Baku Engineering University (BEU) has organized a seminar "We Say No to Drugs" as part of June 26 - the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
At the event aimed at forming an anti-narcotics outlook among students, Bayram Huseynzada, vice-rector for social issues and public relations of BEU, spoke about the spread of drug addiction all over the world and the serious consequences caused by the problem. He noted that drug addiction is a serious threat to humanity, affects the health of young people, the intellectual potential of society, and leads to the destruction of the gene pool. Emphasizing the steps taken at the state level in Azerbaijan against this scourge, the vice-rector mentioned that the necessary legislative framework has been created to regulate activities in the field of combating measures in our country. Bayram Huseynzada pointed out that Azerbaijan has always supported global cooperation in the fight against drugs and has signed bilateral and multilateral agreements with a number of countries in this regard. The vice-rector added that serious results have been achieved in the fight against drug addiction in our country as a result of measures taken for many years.
In her speech, Humeyra Mustafayeva, head of the department of Social Sciences of the university, touched on the importance of regularly holding educational events about drug addiction among young people. She noted that since the fight against drug addiction is the main goal and task in terms of the formation of a healthy society, continuous anti-drug propaganda is an important condition. The head of the department mentioned the effective organization of leisure time activities of young people, their activity in public and social actions, involvement in volunteer activities as one of the effective ways to fight against bad habits.
Other speakers at the event drew attention to the social danger of drug addiction, spoke about the real dangers it poses to the society, and emphasized the importance of expanding awareness measures.
Later, an educational video was shown at the event, and students' questions were answered.
