A two-day international seminar entitled "Improvement of existing curricula of Azerbaijani higher education institutions for international accreditation" organized by the Office of Azerbaijan within the Technical Assistance Missions (TAM) program of the European Union has started. Representatives of the Ministry of Education, international organizations and various higher education institutions operating in the country are taking part in the seminar.
In his opening speech, the rector of BEU, Professor Havar Mammadov stressed that in recent years, many projects were implemented in the higher education institutions of Azerbaijan to train highly qualified personnel and successful results were achieved. The rector touched upon the "State Program on Increasing the International Competitiveness of the Higher Education System in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2019-2023" signed by President Ilham Aliyev to continue the work. He said that the main goal of the document was to train a new generation of specialists using the most advanced scientific achievements, innovative teaching and learning technologies, as well as to modernize the content and quality of the Azerbaijani higher education system with international double degree programs. Moreover, one of the important priorities of the program is to study and apply international experience to support the development of higher education institutions.
H.Mammadov said that the EU-funded TAM aimed to assist in the planning and implementation of ongoing initiatives and activities related to the management of culture at the national or local level. The Rector noted that in order to develop and improve education, it created conditions for concluding agreements with other higher education institutions for the purpose of development and improvement of education, creation of associations, opening of the university in the international arena, as well as development of teaching using international experience. In his speech, Professor H.Mammadov spoke about the multifaceted works done at BEU to study international experience, and also stressed the importance of international accreditation to improve the existing curricula in Azerbaijani universities.
The head of the National Erasmus + Azerbaijan office Parviz Bagirov spoke about the history and importance of the project in Azerbaijan.
The project manager, senior lecturer of the Department of Industrial Engineering of BEU Sevil Imanova gave detailed information about the seminar organized within the TAM project.
The Spanish professor, Cecila Ruiz Esteban spoke about quality assurance in the European Higher Education and made recommendations for improving the existing curricula of Azerbaijani higher education institutions. She spoke about the financial assistance provided to universities, programs and universities that joined the European Union, and highly appreciated the participation of teachers and students in these projects.
After the speeches, the questions of the participants were answered.
It should be noted that the two-day seminar will feature presentations by Spanish Professor Cecila Ruiz Esteba on "Compliance between the accreditation standards of higher education institutions and internal quality assurance" and "From national to international accreditation" and joint discussions.
