BEU hosts international congress dedicated to ecology and environmental issues

Baku Engineering University (BEU) has hosted "International ecology and environment" congress. The international event realized in a hybrid form is an initiative of the Institute of Economic Development and Social Research (IKSAD), which cooperates closely with universities, state institutions and local self-government bodies of the Republic of Türkiye and operates in 43 countries around the world, and is supported by IENSCI (an international conference on engineering and natural sciences).

Before the event, the issues of cooperation with IKSAD were discussed in detail at the meeting held with BEU Rector, professor Havar Mammadov. At the meeting, Rector Havar Mammadov was honored on behalf of IKSAD head Mustafa Latif Emek for his support to the development of relations with the mentioned institution as the honorary chairman of the international congress.

Delivering the opening speech at the congress, BEU Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs Elchin Suleymanov emphasized the importance of the event, which coincided with the 100th anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. Noting the importance of a scientific approach to the solution of environmental problems that remain relevant in the global space, the Vice-Rector highlighted the measures implemented in the direction of restoring the ecological balance in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, ecological solutions based on the latest technologies, including "Smart City" and "Smart Village" projects implementation, as well as the importance of the topics of discussion of the congress.

Alvan Jafarov, IKSAD chief representative for Azerbaijan, mentioned the relevance of the topics to be discussed at the congress. Furthermore, he touched upon the relations of the organization he represented with higher education institutions of Azerbaijan.

Mehtap Donmez Sahin, an employee of Usak University in Türkiye, drew attention to the issues, including prevention of natural disasters, consequences of global warming, disruption of the ecosystem, and etc.

Mahluga Yusifova, associate professor of the Department of Bioecology of the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science of Baku State University (BSU), pointed out the importance of conducting research on eco-solutions and establishing international cooperation in this direction.

Later, listening to lectures and conducting discussions on relevant topics started at the congress.

"Climate crisis", "Environmental policies", "Environmental aspects of the Covid-19 pandemic", " Water Pollution and Management", "Control of Air Pollution and Odor Emissions", "Wastewater Epidemiology", "Environmental management systems, applications and tools" are the main directions of the international event attended by experts from higher education institutions of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Pakistan, Algeria, Morocco, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Iran, Ukraine. Lectures on topics "Digital solutions in environmental engineering: measurement, analysis. monitoring and evaluation", "Environmental engineering education", "Organizational and interdisciplinary relations in environmental engineering", "Environmental and engineering ethics" were listened to and discussions were held.
