An event dedicated to the 100th year anniversary of Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University (ASPU) has been held at Baku Engineering University (BEU).

Rector of Baku Engineering University (BEU) Havar Mammadov stressed that the 100th year of the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, which had an exceptional place in the history of education of our country, rich traditions, was celebrated as a significant anniversary for the Azerbaijani people.

By mentioning İlham Aliyev’s respective Decree signed in April on the celebration of the 100th year anniversary of ASPU, Havar Mammadov put a particular emphasis on the document covering decent fulfillment of all responsibilities of the university since its inception, successful implementation of training of scientific and pedagogical staff for a number of other countries along with our republic, at the same time existence a great deal of prominent public, scientific, cultural figures among the graduates of that university.

Speaking in detail about the history of ASPU, rector of BEU Havar Mammadov talked about People's Commissar of Education Dadash Bunyadzade, as well as,  prominent socio-political figure Nariman Narimanov, at the same time notable intellectuals of that time   Uzeyir Hajibeyli’s, Vali Khuluflu’s, Bakir Chobanzade ‘s, invaluable services formerly in the establishment and development of this higher education institution. 

Emphasizing that the success of ADPU was directly related to the name and multifaceted activities of our National Leader Heydar Aliyev, Havar Mammadov also noted that the Great Leader had visited the university 5 times during his rule in Soviet Azerbaijan, moreover, he was closely involved in concerns of the university community and adopted relevant decisions for the development of this education center.

Rector mentioned that wise statesman, prominent state leader Heydar Aliyev’s, who always gave the highest value to ASPU, valuable advice played a decisive role in achieving momentous accomplishments in ASPU during the years of his power in independent Azerbaijan. 

By noting that a worthy successor of national leader Heydar Aliyev, President Ilham Aliyev, expressed deep appreciation for the name of the teacher and the work done by them, the rector added that the state leader always delivered his support for the development of ASPU.

By saying that ASPU had trained over 160 thousand highly qualified teachers, and had been known as a scientific and educational institution with rich traditions, over the past 100 years, Havar Mammadov also mentioned that ASPU had developed outstanding scientists who contributed immensely to the development of science and education in Azerbaijan, formed and promoted as a scientific center over the course of its operation. Remarking on hundreds of well-known scientists, creative intellectuals, public figures, and statesmen who had been educated at this institution, the rector listed the names of prominent graduates of the university.

The rector of BEU stated that ASPU had made notable progress and achieved momentous success in recent years. Bringing to attention cooperation agreements between ASPU and the world’s 52 prestigious higher education institutions, collaboration with 34 international universities, implementation of student exchanges on dual degree programs, Havar Mammadov added that the agreement between ASPU and George Washington University situated in Washington, USA, was a significant achievement.   

By highlighting that ASPU, one of the prestigious education institutions standing out by its successful operation, was contributing immensely to the development of indicators of content and quality of higher education by taking advantage of advanced scientific achievements, innovative teaching, and training technologies, Havar Mammadov extended his congratulations to the ASPU community on the anniversary and wished them success in their strenuous work aimed at training highly qualified personnel and greater success in their future endeavors.  The Rector of ASPU, professor Jafar Jafarov, expressed his deep gratitude to the rector of BEU for his kind words and congratulations.

In his speech, the rector recalled the decree of President İlham Aliev on celebrating the 100th anniversary of ASPU. He stated that, as it was reflected in the decree corresponding to the qualities of specialized higher education institutions, ASPU did not deny its contributions to the development of independent Azerbaijan with its successful activities in the field of teacher training for the sake of pedagogical education.

Furthermore, the decree encompassed significant strides made by ASPU toward improving content and quality indicators of education by benefitting from advanced scientific achievements and innovative training technologies.

Jafar Jafarov drew attention to the fact that every year over four thousand highly qualified students were graduated from Pedagogical University which had started its operation with just 6 students in 1921. Noting ASPU  as was one of the largest universities in the country rector emphasized that the university had branches in 5 different regions, 4 campuses as well as 2 colleges in Baku.

Bringing to attention the successful results of the university rector stressed that up to 70 % of the students received scholarships. Speaking about the gratifying achievements of ASPU graduates in entrance exams for teaching jobs, he added that, ASPU graduates participating in both teacher recruitment (TRE) and master’s exams demonstrated high admission rates. Rector noted that the admission plan of the university had increased both qualitatively and quantitatively by reaching 98-99% in recent years. Jafar Jafarov spoke about the successful continuance of the dual degree program with George Washington University of the USA in the field of international cooperation as one of the greatest achievements in recent years. He brought to event attendees’ attention admission to two English-oriented specialties at the undergraduate level at ASPU from the new academic year.

At the end, Dean of the Faculty of the Primary Education of ASPU, Professor Farrukh Rustamov, Vice-Rector of ASPU for Science and Innovations, professor Asaf Zamanov, Head of the Department of Azerbaijani language and Literature of BSU, Associate Professor Emin Agayev delivered speeches. In their remarks, they spoke in detail about the history of the foundation and development pathway of the university.
