BEU hosts educational event on drug addiction and cyberbullying

An educational event dedicated to the topics of "Drug addiction is a universal scourge" and "Fighting cyberbullying" has been held at Baku Engineering University (BEU).

The event, jointly organized by BEU and the Absheron District Police Department and supported by the Absheron District Executive Power, was attended by students and representatives of relevant state agencies.

The event, which began with the playing of the National Anthem, commemorated the memory of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev and the martyrs who lost their lives for the territorial integrity of our lands with a minute of silence.

After the demonstration of videos reflecting the topics of drug addiction and cyberbullying, Bayram Huseynzada, Vice-Rector for Educational Affairs of BEU, delivered an opening speech, greeting the guests on behalf of the university administration and emphasizing the importance of such events. Noting that regular meetings are organized between BEU students and employees of the Absheron District Police Department, as well as informing the event participants about the work done at the university in the field of promoting a healthy lifestyle among young people, the Vice-rector called on students to stay away from bad habits and stand in solidarity in the fight against drug addiction, which is a scourge of our humanity.

Deputy Head of the Absheron District Executive Power Gulnar Rahimova emphasized the successful results of the fight against drug addiction at the state level in our country. Mentioning that a relevant commission was established in the Absheron District Executive Power, the deputy head of the executive power added that educational events are being held in educational institutions, as well as a number of measures have been taken to treat people suffering from drug addiction. Touching upon the valor shown by Azerbaijani youth in the 44-day Patriotic War, Gulnar Rahimova wished the students a healthy future and called on them to support the measures taken by our state to combat drug addiction.

Deputy Head of the Absheron District Police Department, Police Lieutenant Colonel Vusal Akhundov made a comprehensive report on the fight against drug addiction. Pointing out that the State Commission on Combating Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Drugs was established by the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev in 1996, Vusal Akhundov highlighted that a State Program on the fight against drug addiction is drawn up in Azerbaijan every five years. He noted that these programs are very important in terms of ensuring a resolute fight against drug addiction and illicit drug trafficking. Emphasizing the important steps taken to raise our youth in a healthy, knowledgeable, and patriotic spirit under the leadership of a worthy successor of the National Leader, President Ilham Aliyev, the deputy head brought to attention the specific measures regularly implemented by the state in his report. Moreover, he spoke in detail about the positive results achieved as a result of a comprehensive approach to the fight against drug addiction and cybercrime.

Parvana Aliyeva, a doctor at the Absheron District Central Hospital, spoke about the harm caused by drugs and psychotropic substances to human health and ways to protect against drugs. Highlighting the tendency to drug addiction among young people, the doctor spoke about modern treatment methods used to treat and rehabilitate people who have become addicted to drugs.

Police Major Teymur Alizada, an employee of the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, touched upon that the fight against drug addiction and illegal drug trafficking, which has become a serious scourge for humanity, is one of the important directions in state policy, emphasizing the measures taken by the ministry. Drawing attention to the fact that a drug addict becomes a tragedy not only for a family, but also for a society, the ministry official noted the importance of joint activities of state bodies and the public in the fight against drug addiction and cyberbullying. Teymur Alizada urged young people not to be deceived by the false promises of drug dealers and fraudsters and to report such cases to the Ministry of Internal Affairs Call Center (102).

The Chief of the Gobu Police Department, Police Major Zaur Babazada made a speech on the topic of “Fighting Cybercrimes”. Stating that cybercriminals have obtained citizens’ personal information and card details through various social media accounts, the Chief of the Department brought to the attention of the event participants the ways to avoid such situations with examples. Stressing the importance of continuous education of students in the fight against drug addiction and cybercrimes, Zaur Babazada mentioned important issues such as promoting a healthy lifestyle, strengthening cyber security measures, taking appropriate precautions, and etc.

At the end, questions related to the topic were answered at the event.
