The next meeting of the Scientific Council has been held at Baku Engineering University (BEU).
Delivering an opening speech at the meeting, BEU Rector Yagub Piriyev emphasized that we have entered the last month of 2024, this year has been successful for our state as a whole, and dynamic development has been achieved in all areas, including the education system under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev. Highlighting that Azerbaijan is hosting another prestigious event this year - the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), the rector also noted that important events have been held in our country within the framework of the "Year of Solidarity for a Green World". Adding to his thoughts that systematic work has been carried out at the university in recent years to promote sustainable development and steps have been taken on the environmental strategy, Yagub Piriyev assessed BEU's first place in the "QS Sustainability Rating 2025" announced within the framework of COP29 as an important achievement. Moreover, he mentioned that BEU students have been successful in various competitions throughout the year, most recently in the III International Chemistry Olympiad.
Later, speaking about the main tasks ahead, Yagub Piriyev brought to the attention of the issues on the agenda of the meeting.
The council heard reports from Vice-Rector for Finance and Economic Affairs Mikayil Zeynalov on "Status of preparations for the winter season", Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Construction Afar Alifov on "Organization of teaching, scientific research and educational work at the Faculty of Architecture and Construction", as well as Sevil Imanova, Head of the Strategy and Quality Assurance Department, on "Results of the activities of the Strategy and Quality Assurance Department". The meeting held extensive discussions on all three issues, and reports were adopted taking into account the proposals and recommendations put forward.
The meeting, which continued with the discussion of current issues, touched upon the issues of international accreditation and more effective organization of the educational process in IT specialties, and relevant instructions were given to the relevant structures in this regard.
The Scientific Council made positive decisions by listening to opinions on the exemption of two students, one of whom is a member of the martyr's family and the other is a student with poor financial means, from the dormitory expenses, as well as the dissertation of doctoral students and dissertators on the Doctor of Philosophy degree, the approval of new statutes of a number of departments, and the establishment of the Alumni Association.
