BEU employee participates in international training

      A training was held in Baku on April 12 as part of the "Strengthening the Resilience of Vulnerable Communities" project implemented with the financial support of U.S. Agency for International Development and under the organization of the International Organization for Migration and the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations. Kanan Shiralizada, a migration specialist at the International Relations and Project Management Department of Baku Engineering University, attended the training.

      The training, entitled “TerRa Toolkit: Community Approach to Radicalization”, aimed at identifying potential or existing signs of radicalization and taking action against employees of various government agencies working with individuals or groups vulnerable to the threat of radicalization and violent extremism by co-authors Magda Rooze and Holly Young.

     Moreover, the training provided information on the signs of a person's possible radicalization, how to contact them to discuss such a sensitive issue, as well as working with professionals in other areas, such as law enforcement and social services. Holly Young and Magda Rooze provided resources that would be useful to professionals who interacted with groups that might be vulnerable to radicalization in their work, as well as solutions to problems.

     The purpose of the training was to raise the awareness of employees of the State Migration Service, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, the State Committee on Work with the Diaspora, the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations, the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs and the representatives of civil society institutions, to recognize the signs of radicalization of vulnerable people at risk, to share the experience of family members of radicalized people, to provide the necessary knowledge in this area.

      During the training, which took the form of an interesting discussion, foreign experts answered questions from participants.

     It should be noted that Baku Engineering University supports and ensures the participation of not only students and teachers, but also administrative staff in various domestic and foreign training, courses, professional development programs to educate and improve their professional activities.
