A delegation of the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) has visited Baku Engineering University (BEU).

Meeting with the guests, BEU Rector Yagub Piriyev expressed his satisfaction with the relations being established with the renowned university of the United Arab Emirates and provided the delegation with detailed information about the structure, modern laboratories, scientific and research opportunities, and international relations of BEU. Noting the successes achieved by the university in recent years, the Rector highlighted the newly announced results of the “QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2025". He added that BEU ranks fourth place in Azerbaijan in this ranking.

Yagub Piriyev especially noted that BEU and UAEU would conduct joint research on three areas of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - “Clean Water and Sanitation”, “Affordable and Clean Energy”, and “Climate action”. He emphasized that Azerbaijan, being a party to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), is one of the most actively participating states in the fight against global environmental crises. 2024 has been declared the "Green World Solidarity Year" in Azerbaijan and important measures are being implemented in this direction in our country. Noting that COP29 is currently being held in Baku, the Rector emphasized that the joint research to be conducted by BEU with the UAEU aims to contribute to the fight against climate change, including activities in the field of green energy.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, UAEU Vice-Rector Ahmed Ali Alraeesi highlighted that their visit to BEU coincided with the COP29 event and added that this prestigious session was organized at a high level. He positively assessed the cooperation established with BEU and the projects to be implemented as a result of the discussions held for this purpose. Providing information about UAEU, the Vice-Rector mentioned that the university was established in 1976, more than 70 specialties are taught here, more than 160 laboratories, 12 research centers operate, and there are more than 80 thousand graduates of the university. The university, which also has successes in the scientific field, is ranked 261st in the world ranking.

The meeting, which continued with a broad discussion of future areas of cooperation, emphasized that the two universities would conduct joint scientific research on 4 topics (development of innovative methods for neutralizing water environments based on high electric fields and gas discharges, production and characterization of environmentally friendly ionic-liquid surfactants for localizing oil layers scattered on the water surface, the role of energy efficiency in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, as well as Climate Action and Economic Development: Creating a Sustainable Balance) in 3 directions of the Sustainable Development Goals. 4 teachers and 8 students from both universities will participate in these studies.

Moreover, the organization of a visit of BEU students to UAEU, the implementation of teacher-student exchange, and cooperation on a dual diploma program in the specialty of "Chemical Engineering" were also considered.

After the meeting, the UAEU delegation met with the deans and heads of departments of BEU and exchanged views on the details of the scientific research to be launched.
