Baku Engineering University (BEU) has hosted an event jointly organized by the Faculty of Engineering and the Baku Academy of Music to promote Western Azerbaijani songs.
First, the Dean of the Faculty Asif Guliyev spoke about the importance of the event. Moreover, he conveyed his best wishes to the students in the new year and wished them success in the winter exam session.
Later, participating in the event, Professor of the Baku Academy of Music Maya Gafarova provided information about the “Iravan” folk instrument ensemble, consisting of students, based on the Concept of Return to Western Azerbaijan. She noted that today, extensive work is being done at the state level regarding the return to our historical lands, and the creation of the aforementioned ensemble is one of the steps taken towards finding, deeply researching and studying our ancient music based on archival materials. M. Gafarova added that the “Iravan” ensemble has prepared a concert program based on Western Azerbaijani songs, and the songs on which certain work has been carried out for the purpose of restoration are currently being delivered to our people.
Afterwards, a number of forgotten and restored Western Azerbaijani songs were performed by the “Iravan” folk instrument ensemble.
Our ancient songs, which were listened to with interest, as well as the ashug melody “Kerem Gozellemesi” performed on the saz by Ibrahim Bayramov, a third-year student of the “Mechanical Engineering” specialty of BEU, were greeted with applause in the hall.
The event ended with the beloved and famous song “Azerbaijan”, whose lyrics are attributed to Samad Vurgun and whose music is attributed to Said Rustamov.
