Baku Engineering University hosts meeting of Board of Trustees

Baku Engineering University (BEU) has hosted the next meeting of the Board of Trustees. 

Chairman of the Council, Deputy Minister of Education Idris Isayev noted that further development of education was always in the focus of our country’s leadership, comprehensive care and support were given to all levels of this field, including the higher education system at the state level. Emphasizing the factors determining the main principles of the state policy in this direction, the Deputy Minister brought into consideration the measures taken to modernize the content and quality indicators of the higher education system, and strengthen the social protection of students and educators. Idris Isayev particularly underlined the importance of the documents signed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in terms of the integration of the higher education system into the world education system, as well as “State Program on increasing the international competitiveness of higher education in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2019-2023.”

In his speech, the Chairman of the Council touched upon the activity of BEU in accordance with the strategic development program during the reporting period, drawing attention to the main tasks ahead. The Deputy Minister expressed his views on important issues such as the creation of new specialties based on the requirements of the modern labor market, the correct definition of the educational burden, more effective provision of employment for graduates, increasing the quality of higher education, expanding its scope and establishing result-oriented work.

Later, BEU Rector, professor Havar Mammadov delivered a comprehensive report on the activities of the higher educational institution for 2021, as well as the implementation of the strategic development program. The Rector mentioned that the organization of education at the university, oeprating on the principles of transparency and objectivity, was based on modern technologies and methods, the electronic information system was applied in all areas, and the work was being continued to further strengthen the material and technical base of the educational institution.

Bringing to the attention the the relevant statistical data related to the students currently studying at the University and education, Havar Mammadov presented the measures taken in teaching organization, innovations and scientific research. Furthermore, he pointed out the achievements in the field of publishing scientific articles of the University academic staff on scientific platforms such as  Thomson Reuters, Web Of Science, Scopus.

Havar Mammadov noted that the students were particularly active in the innovative activities of the University, and there were about 50 student clubs in the higher education institution. Seven student teams of BEU participated in the world's largest aviation, space and technology festival TEKNOFEST - 2022 Aerospace and Technology Festival with their own projects. He reminded that RED team of Baku Engineering University (BEU) took the first place at the TEKNOFEST Azerbaijan festival in the category of Robotics.

The Rector cited the measures implemented in BEU international relations, educational work and other fields. Havar Mammadov pointed out that a Dual Degree Program has been implented between BEU and INHA University of South Korea in 4 specialties at the undergraduate for two years, underlining that the program implemented at the expense of state funds creates great opportunities for providing Azerbaijan with young engineers. The Rector added that within the framework of the program, 7 academic staff of BEU were involved in training in Korea, as well as the Summer School by Korean teaching staff started at BEU.

In his speech, the Rector talked about the achievements achieved during the reporting period, as well as the existing problems and ways to solve them.

Afterwards, the work plan of the Board of Trustees of BEU for the second half of 2022 was approved at the meeting. Moreover, the report on the Dual Degree Program within the framework of the "State Program on Increasing the International Competitiveness of the Higher Education System in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2019-2023," the implementation of the 2021 budget of BEU, the forecast for 2022 and financial activity report as well as the report of the Audit Committee were listened to. According to the agenda, the requirements arising from the new Charter of BEU were also reviewed and a decision was made to establish an internal audit unit at the University.

Council members, Yagub Piriyev, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, academician Arif Hashimov, Acting president of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Rufat Hajialibayov, Advisor to the Minister of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan on digitalization of health care, and others expressed their opinions and suggestions regarding the issues on the agenda.

At the meeting, where the tasks arising from the Strategic Development Program and the possibilities of increasing efficiency in financial matters were discussed in detail, relevant assignments for future activities were given, and the issues included in the agenda were approved by voting.
