Training held at BEU within ECAR project

Baku Engineering University has hosted a training within Erasmus+ project entitled “Establishment of Rectors’ Conference in Azerbaijan” (ECAR). 

Representatives of 16 partner universities participated in the training, which was held under the project funded by the European Commission.

Opening the event, BEU Rector, professor Havar Mammadov expressed his pleasure to see the guest at the University. Noting the importance of the project, the Rector touched upon that the mail goal was to coordinate the activities of university rectors to improve the quality of higher education in Azerbaijan and integrate it into the European education system.

The head of the University expressed his confidence that the project would help identify new formats of cooperation between local and European universities. Emphasizing the international significance of the project and its contribution to the development of higher education institutions, Havar Mammadov added that the Rectors' Conference would lay the groundwork for the representation of Azerbaijani higher education institutions in the international arena.

Rector of Baku Business University, Professor Ibad Abbasov, the project coordinator, spoke about the importance of developing a national network and cooperation between universities and other partner organizations through the Rectors' Conference. He pointed out the measures taken to establish the Rectors' Conference in Azerbaijan using foreign experience.

Highlighting the significance of the training, adviser to the Minister of Education Nijat Mammadli underlined that the all activities within the project would provide a major support to the internationalization of educational programs of local universities and increasing the competitiveness of universities. 

Jeff King, Executive Director of the University of Central Oklahoma’s Center for Excellence in Transformative Teaching and Learning attended the event online and delivered a presentation on "Transformational Teaching and Learning." He pointed out that it was important to look for new methods due to the great changes that had taken place in society, as well as in the academy over the past 10 years. He added that the teaching methods of transformational learning were an important issue in this process. Speaking about transformative teaching and learning, Jeff King noted that teaching was based on giving information, and how students learn and use information was more important in learning.

Later, the event continued with a training.

The training on “Change Management - Transformational Teaching and Learning” was conducted by Olgun Chichek, Vice-President of the Central and Eastern European Network of Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (CEENQA).

During the training, detailed information was provided on the requirements of quality assurance in higher education institutions, internationalization of educational programs, quality assurance in curricula, international accreditation and its future prospects, modular accreditation, and extensive discussions were held on these issues.
