Making  concessions to BEU students decided

The next meeting of the Scientific Council has been held at Baku Engineering University (BEU).

At the meeting, the rector of BEU, Professor Havar Mammadov sincerely congratulated the University staff and students on the upcoming December 31 -World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day and the New Year. Touching upon the important events taken to further strengthen our Azerbaijan in 2020, the rector emphasized the great historical victory of our army under the leadership of Victorious Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev.

Speaking about the importance of reforms in education this year, Havar Mammadov noted the number of important innovations implemented at BEU in 2020, despite the difficulties of the current pandemic.

The rector said that education was organized online at the University and all technical opportunities were created for this. Referring to the specific facts, it was noted that the works done in the direction of distance learning at BEU, an e-university, were organized at the appropriate level.

Later, at the meeting of the Scientific Council, detailed discussions were held on the rules of organizing and conducting the exam session of the autumn semester of the 2020/2021 academic year in a pandemic. Opinions of vice-rectors, deans, heads of departments and heads of student organizations were heard, various proposals were voiced.

At the end of the discussions, it was decided to make a number of concessions to students.

The Scientific Council decided to exempt students from one of the final exams in accordance with their choice and assess their knowledge on this subject on the basis of the results obtained in the intra-semester activity.

  Moreover, the number of test questions was reduced to 40, depending on the nature of the subject, 60-80 minutes were allocated for test exams, 15 minutes for each student in oral exams, and 90 minutes for written exams in a number of subjects. At the same time, it was decided to give students topics related to test and written exam questions and questions related to the oral exam in advance.

The meeting also touched upon other concessions for students. These concessions include the 10-point assessment of all student attendance, the reduction of the three intra-semester activity assessment to one assessment, and the free re-examinations. The deadline for admission of students to independent work was extended until January 9.

The meeting discussed in detail other issues related to the organization of the exam session for the fall semester, which will begin on January 11, 2021 and last 4 weeks, and relevant instructions were given to the heads of relevant departments to promptly solve the problems faced by students.
