Educational event held at BEU together with Absheron District Policy Department

Baku Engineering University has hosted an educational event organized by Absheron District Policy Department and supported by Absheron District Executive Power on “Drug abuse is worldwide scourge,” “Consequences of child marriage,” and “Religious radicalism.” 

In his opening speech, BEU Vice-Rector for Educational Affairs Bayram Huseynzada stressed that drug addiction, child marriage, religious radicalism were the most painful and sad problems of our time, noting the importance of the event.

Providing information about the measures taken by the state in this direction in Azerbaijan, Bayram Huseynzada added that the fight against drugs was carried out at the state level and the Decree "On measures against drug addiction and drug trafficking" was first signed by National Leader Heydar Aliyev on August 26, 1996. At the end of his speech, the Vice-Rector called on young people to stay away from harmful habits.

Chairman of Absheron District Council on Older Persons Nadir Aghayev emphasized that along with the spiritual and physical education, the teaching also played an important role in the development of every young person as a worthy citizen in the future. Underlining the role of youth, the Chairman recalled Great Leader Heydar Aliyev's opinion "Youth is our future." By highlighting that the event was dedicated to important issues, he called on young people to stay out of troubles and gave his recommendations.

The Inspector General of the Department for Organization of Preventive Work with Juveniles of Absheron District Police Department, Police Major Elbrus Ahmadov thanked BEU administration for their support in organizing the event.  He touched upon that the purpose of holding events on drug addiction, child marriage and religious radicalism in educational institutions was to help youth and juveniles to stay away from harmful habits and drugs, as well as to strengthen police-citizen and school-police relations. Mentioning the organization of awareness-raising events in this direction in the educational institutions located in the Absheron District, E.Ahmadov added that the educational work should be further expanded. 

In his report, E.Ahmadov stressed that  “State Program for Combating Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and Their Precursors and Drug Addiction for 2019-2024” which was the 4th program approved by the Order of President Ilham Aliyev dated July 22, 2019 was being successfully carried out.

The Police Major noted that a serious fight against drug addiction was carried out in the country, successful operative-search measures were conducted to identify and bring to justice those involved in drug trafficking.

Asgar Amraliyev, Head of the Youth and Sports Department of the Absheron District, denoted that despite of the fight of the world states against drugs, the scourge was spreading rapidly. By emphasizing that the health of every young person was of great importance for our state, the Head of the Department added that the state always paid attention and care to youth. He brought to the attention that in order to educate young people in a healthy spirit, the state had built Olympic Sports Complexes in the regions, and put into operation sports centers and stadiums.  A.Amraliyev called on young people to stay away from bad habits and go in for sports.

Police Major Ibrahim Mammadov, Chief Commissioner of the Absheron District Drug Control Department, spoke about the operative measures carried out to investigate and prosecute those involved in the distribution, use and sale of drugs among young people. The Police Major pointed out an immediate response to the appeals and information posted on social media.

Speaking about the consequences of child marriage, Assistant Chief of the Absheron District Police Department, Police Lieutenant-Colonel Yashar Mammadov said that this issue was relevant all over the world as a social problem. Y.Mammadov underlined that according to research, child marriage occured for a number of reasons, such as the girls' own desires, the pressure of parents, the difficult financial situation in the family and so on. He stressed that this problem was especially noticeable in Muslim countries.

By pointing out that various educational measures were taken to prevent the violation of the rights of adolescents, the Lieutenant Colonel added that attention was paid to girls in need of social and psychological support, and relevant trainings were organized in public institutions to involve girls in education.

Later, the Head of the Department of Social Sciences of BEU, assoc.prof. Bilal Dedayev made a report on "Religious radicalism." In his report, B.Dadayev mentioned that factors, including religious illiteracy, psychological and social problems, unemployment and poverty, purposeful propaganda, misuse of social media led to religious radicalism.

The event was attended by Vugar Bashirov, Chief Adviser of the Public-Political and Humanitarian Affairs Department, Parviz Ahmadov, Deputy Head of the Absheron District Education Department, Vafa Iskenderli and Parvana Aliyeva, doctors of the Absheron District Hospital, and Gulnar Hasanova, Inspector of Saray Police Department.

At the end, a video entitled "Say no to drugs" was demonstrated about the harms of drugs.
