Cultural centers of our liberated territories through the eyes of BEU future architects

Within the framework of the Decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev on the declaration of 2022 as the "Year of Shusha", various measures are being implemented in our country, as well as construction, restoration and reconstruction works are being carried out in the territories liberated from the occupation. Baku Engineering University (BEU) presented its next different approach to this process. Thus, most of the diploma theses defended at BEU Department of Architecture (Azerbaijani and English sections) were dedicated to the development of our native Karabakh.

The University students reflected their views in the direction of architectural planning, reconstruction and design of our lands. Sabir Orujov, the Head of the Department of Architecture and Design of BEU, noted that the main direction of the diploma theses covered the topics of importance in the direction of the development and future perspective of the picturesque places of Karabakh liberated by our victorious army. This includes the projects such as "New International Cultural Center," "New Music School," "Restoration and Conservation of the Mehmandarovs’ House," "New Rehabilitation and Medical Center" in Shusha, as well as "Multifunctional Public Center Complex" and "Historical Culture Center" near the city of Shusha, "Health and Recreation Center" in Kalbajar, "Khari Bulbul Art Center," "Contemporary Art Center" in Aghdam.

The professor of Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts Adil Alakbarov, BEU academic staff, including Vagif Mammadov, Agil Kazimov, Nazim Mahmudov, Ardit Elezi, Namig Abbasov, Zahid Mammadov and other teachers participated in the diploma defense process.

The teachers shared their views on the presentation of the projects and expressed their hope that the young people majoring in Architecture at BEU, operating since 2017, would contribute to the future culture and field of architecture.
