BEU transfers 50,000 manat to the Coronavirus Response Fund

Baku Engineering University (BEU) Scientific Council has held an online meeting on the Google Hangouts Meet platform.

The meeting discussed in detail the situation after the suspension of the educational process in all educational institutions to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as the implementation of tasks arising from the decisions of the Operational Staff under the Cabinet of Ministers.

Noting the measures taken by the Government to protect public health and strengthen the fight against coronavirus infection, BEU rector, professor Havar Mammadov noted that the Coronavirus Response Fund was established by the relevant decree of President Ilham Aliyev. 

Rector H.Mammadov said that 20 million manat was initially allocated to the Coronavirus Response Fund from the Reserve Fund of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva donated their one-year salaries to the Fund. Various companies, organizations, individuals and legal entities operating in our country actively participate in the fight against coronavirus and make voluntary donations to the Fund established for this purpose.

A unanimous decision was made to transfer 50,000 manat from the University budget to the Coronavirus Response Fund at the meeting.

Later, the implemention distance education at BEU, the possibility of organizing it by electronic means, the protection of the health of students and staff were discussed. It was noted that in order to prevent the danger of coronavirus infection, to intensify appropriate medical-prophylactic, disinfectant and other preventive measures, continuous measured were being carried out at BEU. All educational buildings, public catering facilities and dormitories of the Uuniversity were disinfected by the Hygiene and Epidemiology Center of Absheron District, as well as the sanitary-epidemiological condition was taken under control. Moreover, informative video was prepared and posted on the University's website, as well as on monitors in dormitories and educational buildings to raise awareness.

The meeting discussed the continuation of the distance education process at BEU in order to ensure the continuity of education related to coronavirus disease. It was noted that the University had all the technical capabilities for this. It was decided that from March 29, this process would be carried out through the learning platform Google Classroom LMS (Learning Management System).

It should be noted that BEU has been a member of Google's G-Suite cloud technology for three years, and actively use some of the modules related to this technology, including corporate e-mail, calendar, google drive, spreadsheets for employees and students. 

At the end of the meeting, Rector H.Mammadov called on university staff to strictly follow the recommendations and requirements of the Operational Staff under the Cabinet of Ministers.
