The next meeting of the Board of Trustees has been held at Baku Engineering University (BEU). Chairman of the Council, Deputy Minister of Education Idris Isayev stressed that changes had been made in the composition of the Board of Trustees over the past period, the Council's regulations had been approved and this would have a positive impact on joint effective activities.

I.Isayev said that the reforms carried out at all levels of education were being successfully implemented at the higher education level. He spoke about the measures taken to increase access to higher education, strengthen academic capacity in higher education, integrate higher education into the world education system, modernize the content and quality of higher education, strengthen social protection of students and educators.  Emphasizing that serious measures were taken to increase academic capacity in higher education, the Deputy Minister recalled the approval of "State Program on increasing the international competitiveness of higher education in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2019-2023" by the Order of President Ilham Aliyev. He noted that the first component of the State Program envisaged the improvement of the content and quality of the higher education system through international double degree programs, the involvement of foreign experts, the creation of a new academic environment, while second component covered the financing of doctoral education abroad for the training of national staff in order to strengthen the academic capacity of higher education institutions of our country. The Deputy Minister noted that BEU had started working in this direction and a memorandum of understanding had already been signed with Inha University of South Korea. 

Touching upon the issues on the agenda, the Deputy Minister said that the meeting would discuss, among other issues, the Strategic Development Program for the development of BEU for 2020-2023. I.Isayev stressed that the purpose of the document was to train specialists in accordance with the constantly evolving requirements of the labor market, using the latest scientific achievements, innovative teaching technologies, in close cooperation with employers, bring the educational process, content and quality indicators in line with international standards, strengthen research and innovation activities, expand university-business world relations, improve social and public activities

Later, the rector of BEU, Professor Havar Mammadov made a report on the activities of the University for 2017-2019. In his report, the rector spoke about the achievements of the last three years, the existing problems and ways to solve them. Noting the existence of an electronic information system at the University to ensure transparency, accuracy, honesty and accountability, the use of innovative technologies in teaching, H.Mammadov spoke about the achievements of BEU students in various programming competitions and contests. Touching upon the measures taken in the field of scientific works, the rector said that the articles of BEU academic staff were published on the Web Of Science platform, Scopus and other foreign scientific journals. Speaking about the establishment of bilateral relations with foreign universities, H.Mammadov stressed the University's participation in international educational programs, including Erasmus + KA1, German DAAD student-teacher exchange program, US Fulbright research exchange programs.

The meeting was followed by a report on the activities of BEU Rector for 2017-2019, the University's strategic development program for 2020-2023, the implementation of the BEU budget for 2019 and the budget forecast for 2020, 3-year financial activity. Moreover, the report of the Audit Committee for 2018-2019 was heard, the opportunities to increase efficiency in financial matters, the work plan of the Board of Trustees for 2020 were discussed in detail.

Members of the Council - Deputy Chief of Staff at the Ministry of Education Yagub Piriyev, Director of the Institute of Physics of ANAS, Academician Nazim Mammadov, General Director of Azerkimya Production Union Imran Arzumanzade and General Manager of “SAP Azerbaijan” Rufat Hajialibayov made proposals on the issues on the agenda.

In the end, the issues on the agenda were put to a vote and approved.
