Baku Engineering University has hosted an event dedicated to June 15 - National Salvation Day.

First, a documentary "From National Salvation to the Renaissance", reflecting the period of National Leader Heydar Aliyev's leadership in Azerbaijan, was demonstrated.

In his opening speech, the Rector of BEU, Professor Havar Mammadov noted that 29 years have passed since June 15 - National Salvation Day, which was of great importance in the fate of the state and people of Azerbaijan, and written in golden letters in our history.

Bringing to the attention that Azerbaijan gained its independence in the late twentieth century and faced great dangers, Havar Mammadov noted that political crisis, severe socio-economic situation, caused by the incompetence of the government, put the country face-to-face with the threat of civil war and the loss of independence. Furthermore, the Rector reminded that the Armenian aggression and occupation of our lands aggravated the situation in the country, and stressed that at such a fateful moment, the Azerbaijani people trusted their future to prominent statesman Heydar Aliyev.

Havar Mammadov emphasized that Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, who returned to Baku at the insistent demands of the people, was elected as chairman of the Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan on June 15, 1993, and President of Azerbaijan on October 3 of that year. After the National Leader came to power, all the processes threatening the state independence of Azerbaijan were prevented and substantial work was done to build the state.

Highlighting that thanks to the wisdom and determination of the Great Leader, the civil conflict in Azerbaijan was put to an end once and for all, the Head of the University mentioned that our country was saved from the socio-economic crisis, political strife and chaos, and radical reforms began in all spheres of public life during the leadership of Heydar Aliyev. 

Citing the priorities of the policy pursued by the Great Leader, Havar Mammadov gave a special emphasis to the achievement of a ceasefire with Armenia and taking important steps for a just settlement of the conflict, the establishment of socio-political stability and security in the country, the formation of a liberal economy, building a national army, implementing a new oil strategy and Azerbaijan's integration into the international community.

Underlining that 1993-2003 was a period when Azerbaijan emerged as a state, formed and transformed into a full-fledged subject of the international community, the Rector listed the important work and historical events in this direction.

Adding that the Salvation Day has been celebrated in a different mood for two years, the Rector pointed out that under the leadership of President, Victorious Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the glorious Azerbaijani Army won a brilliant victory in the Patriotic War, liberated our occupied lands and ensured the territorial integrity of our country. Havar Mammadov touched upon that the greatest wish of the Great Leader was to see Azerbaijan as a whole and his dreams come true after 27 years, noting that President Ilham Aliyev fulfilled his father’s will, and our tricolor flag is hoisted in Shusha, Lachin, Aghdam, Fuzuli, Jabrayil, Zangilan, Gubadli and Kalbajar today. The Rector also spoke about the reconstruction work, carried out in the liberated territories and made each of us proud. 

At the end of his speech, Havar Mammadov stressed the importance of studying the legacy of Heydar Aliyev in higher education institutions, working with the younger generation in this direction, and conveyed his best wishes on the occasion of this historic holiday.

Afterwards, the Dean of the Engineering Faculty of BEU, associate professor Huseyn Mirzayev looked at the historical events. Speaking about the multifaceted activities of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, as well as the work done by Azerbaijan for independence and development, the Dean of the Faculty stressed that Azerbaijan has a very strong army and economy today. H. Mirzayev noted that the development strategy of our country was laid out by National Leader Heydar Aliyev and this political course was successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev.

Public Relations Department
