BEU employees attend training in Turkey

Employees of Baku Engineering University (Elmaddin Huseynov, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Mathematics and Informatics at BEU, Ahmad Ahmadzada, Lecturer of the Department of Computer and Information Technologies) have attended the training organized at Middle East Technical University (METU). 

A total of 17 representatives from 12 Azerbaijani universities were represented in the training held as part of the project professional development of educators and study of international experience in the field of "Human-Computer Interaction." The winner and coordinator of the project winning the grant competition of the Ministry of Education "Development of higher and secondary special education in 2021/2022" is Nakhchivan University, and the project expert is the world-famous scientist, professor of METU Kurshat Cagiltay.

During the visit, the participants were informed in detail about the METU history, infrastructure, research centers, technology park, design factory, international cooperation, exchange programs. After getting acquainted with METU Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) laboratories, the working principle of the laboratory was presented with practical tasks in "Tobii eye tracker - laboratory studio of eye tracking devices."

 Serap Yaghmur’s presentation on "Cognitive Modeling and CogTool - interface design" was listened to in the computer laboratory of the Computer Education and Instructional Technology Department.

Within the framework of the training, necessary information was provided about the purpose and working mechanism of the factory at the meetings held at METU "Design Factory," as well as speeches were delivered on "Interdisciplinary Design Studio," "Desktop eye tracker" and "Tobii Glass eye tracker Demo," and practical trainings were carried out.

Extensive information was given about the research centers, ongoing projects, implementing companies, "Teknokent Cozone" at OTDÜ Teknokent. 

Training participants were provided with information on the activities of Computer Engineering Department, the curriculum of the specialty, its distribution per semesters, the directions taught in the subjects, the prospects for possible cooperation were considered.

Various innovative projects of the center, eye-movement-controlled wheelchairs, game programs were demonstrated at Audio-Visual Systems Research and Production Center (GİSAM) by K.Cagiltay.

At the end, K.Cagiltay and the project participants exchanged views on various prospects of cooperation. Futhermore, the presentation of the professor's book "Human-Computer Interaction and Applied Engineering" to be translated into Azerbaijani and the organization of a joint international conference on the study of human-computer interfaces were discussed within the project.
