Baku selected as one of the pilot cities in the “CAMPAIGNers” project, in which BEU is also a partner

Baku has been selected as one of the Lighthouse Cities in the research conducted on the basis of the international project "CAMPAIGNers" in partnership with Baku Engineering University (BEU).

Baku residents (municipal and executive representatives, researchers, officials working in decision-making and executive mechanisms, etc.) are also involved in the survey, which is an important part of the study. The survey uses a purposeful selection method to select experts from the Lighthouse Cities, those who participate in the climate movements of their cities, or have in-depth knowledge.

Isa Gasimov, BEU manager of the “CAMPAIGNers” project, associate professor of Industrial Engineering Department, noted that currently Baku ranks first in terms of the number of respondents.

For the first time, BEU is participating in the HORIZON 2020 program as a partner in a project funded by the European Union and won in 2020 under the leadership of the Energy Institute of the Johannes Kepler University in Austria. Other project partners (28 partners in total) are universities, companies, municipalities and public organizations from 14 foreign countries (Turkey, Austria, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Norway, France, Finland, Greece, Italy, Ireland, South Africa, Lithuania and Peru).

The results of the research (to achieve the goals of the European Commission's Paris Agreement) will allow to identify specific aspects of lifestyle-related activities affecting the environment in the selected Lighthouse Cities .

The measurements will be carried out in Baku, Milan, Izmir, Lahti, Linz, Skopelos, DAFNI, Trois Rivieres, Freistadt, Vilnius, Pesaro, Grenoble, Dublin, Malmö, Cape Town and Libertad.

It should be noted that the project, which began in May 2021, aims to contribute to the solution of human-centered problems caused and affected by climate change. Under the project, barriers to change in people's lifestyles will be identified through research methods and analysis, and new lifestyle patterns will be identified and tested through innovative solutions. A mobile application called “CAMPAIGNers” will be developed to disseminate and use the results in the community. Moreover, the impact of lifestyle changes on greenhouse gases and the region's energy and economy will be examined with modeling tools used by the European Union. Once the mobile application is developed, people from around the world will be involved in the process. Using this application, people will be able to change their lifestyle based on the tasks assigned to them. The results of this change will be collected as information, as well as used as a means of motivation for people in other parts of the world. During the project, 15 million residents of 16 cities on 5 continents will use this mobile application to encourage the participation of other people.
