Scientific-Methodological Seminar on "The Modern Financial System: New Challenges" Held at BEU

A scientific-methodological seminar aimed at developing the analytical thinking and research skills of researchers and students, as well as strengthening the academic environment, has been held at the Faculty of Economics and Management of Baku Engineering University (BEU).

Conducted in line with Goal 9 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (industry, innovation and infrastructure), the seminar featured a presentation by Aganemat Agayev, Assoc. Prof. at the Department of Finance and Accounting, on the topic "The Modern Financial System: New Challenges."

It was noted that the leading priorities currently emerging in global financial research include global debt and its sustainability, price bubbles and risks in financial markets, capital flows and currency volatility, as well as geopolitical factors, artificial intelligence, digitalisation, crypto and financial technologies, and the pro-cyclicality of macro-fiscal policies.

The presentation devoted considerable attention to research and analytical findings on the macro-fiscal policy framework and scenarios in Azerbaijan, taking into account the country's strategic development objectives.

It was emphasised that, across all countries, counter-cyclical and sustainable fiscal policy mitigates the adverse effects of economic cycles, strengthens macroeconomic stability, and creates a favourable environment for long-term development.

During the presentation, it was also highlighted that counter-cyclical and sustainable fiscal policy is closely linked to the UN's human development goals, playing a significant role in achieving objectives such as poverty reduction, ensuring quality education, promoting healthy living, and creating equal opportunities.

The event concluded with an extensive discussion on the topics addressed.
