Info Session on "NASA Space Apps Challenge 2026" Held at BEU

An info session on the "NASA Space Apps Challenge 2026" international hackathon was held at Baku Engineering University (BEU).
The event featured remarks by Elmaddin Huseynov, Deputy Dean of BEU's Faculty of Information and Computer Technologies; Mayis Azizov, Head of the Science and Innovation Department; Bunyamin Seyidov, Head of the Technopark's Technology Transfer Center; and Mirhashim Mammadli, Chairman of the Student Scientific Society for the Faculty of Information and Computer Technologies.
The speeches emphasized the importance of students' participation in scientific and innovative initiatives, the application of modern technologies, teamwork, and gaining experience in international projects. The contributions of such events to developing young people's knowledge and skills and fostering creative thinking and innovative approaches were highlighted.
Amil Zeynalli, a "Computer Engineering" student at BEU and the 2026 local coordinator for Azerbaijan of the "NASA Space Apps Challenge," then provided detailed information on the hackathon's purpose, participation opportunities, challenge categories, and the process of developing projects.
It was noted that the hackathon, which aims to develop innovative solutions to real-world problems related to Earth and space using open data from NASA and partner space agencies, gives participants the opportunity to turn their ideas into projects and present them at the international level.
Students' questions were addressed during the info session.
The "NASA Space Apps Challenge 2026" hackathon is scheduled to be held on November 14–15.
The info session was organized in line with UN Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education), 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
