Educational meeting on ecology held for students at BEU

An educational meeting on ecology was held at Baku Engineering University (BEU) on the topic "Sustainable development, clean environment: Waste management" with the aim of increasing students' environmental knowledge and promoting sustainable development principles.

The event was held in accordance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals 6 (Clean water and sanitation), 11 (Sustainable cities and communities), and 13 (Climate action). Speakers included Mehman Nabiyev, sector director of the Environmental Policy Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Elnur Aliyev, deputy head of the Environmental and Labor Protection Department of "Clean City" OJSC, Namig Shikhaliyev, head of the Chemical Engineering Department at BEU, Asif Guliyev, dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and Farman Karimov, associate professor of the Food and Biotechnology Department.

The presentations addressed important issues such as the role of waste management in environmental protection and efficient use of natural resources, household waste sorting, recycling processes, and modern approaches applied in this field. The importance of using progressive methods in waste management, including polyethylene and plastic packaging materials, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, protecting atmospheric air, and expanding the use of environmentally clean transportation was emphasized. Attention was drawn to the protection of greenery, wastewater management, protecting the Caspian Sea from pollution, reducing environmental impacts during the exploration, prospecting, and extraction of natural resources, and integrated management of water resources as well as transboundary waters.

Within the framework of the event, the importance of active youth participation in achieving sustainable development goals was highlighted, and practical recommendations were given regarding proper waste management in daily life.

At the same time, participants were provided with necessary information about Azerbaijan hosting World Environment Day in 2026 and the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13), one of the world's most prestigious events in the field of urbanization.

At the end, Aysel Abbasova, staff member of the Chemical Engineering Department, presented the EcoEthanol research conducted in the chemical engineering laboratories.
